Dish’s Ergen Scraps Blockbuster Plans After Wireless Delays

I've been getting BB for since the beginning. Many get it for free as a perk, reward or apology for something gone wrong. Personally I've enjoyed the DVD part of the service, granted it's a little slow at times.
Of greater concern is the streaming, with the obvious Sling / Dish Online problems and no real fix in sight I'm wondering if this may morph into a totally new system.
I do not know if there is a immediate business connection between Dish Online and BB, but for sure the rentals and streaming are synonymous.
It has become obvious customers are at the whim of the providers. All you need to do is look at the Zoom suit, the AMC dispute, and now the Gannett issue, to name a few.

Could this BB situation be the beginning of the end for the current Sling / Dish Online program also?
Change is the only thing you can really count on....

Scott's point was, if you already had it and were paying $10 you got additional feature for no extra cost. If you didn't like the Blockbuster part you didn't have to use it, you still went on with your same service. Even if the movie in the mail part didn't work well it was still an additional feature for no extra charge. It's terrible getting more for money isn't it?

There were many who DID NOT get more for their money . The DVD's never were shipped, and it has been stated that the on-demand movie selection did not increase and the streaming did not work.

So, what exactly MORE did they get?

I never experienced not getting a DVD....slow occasionally. Streaming works, perfect no... but most of the time it works for me.

I never got the first DVD. I would be on the wait list do long that I would get frustrated and remove my movies. I love the channels, though, and they are worth the extra dough to me.

The fact is, Dish added some extra perks at no additional charge. They did add others at an extra increase, such as a second disc for $5. For those like me who had HD Platinum, and were switched to BBMP at its beginning, you still got all the channels you had with Platinum. So really, you are just complaining for the sake of complaining.

Actually a lot was added to the streaming service but mostly kids stuff.

Those who chose never to order a disc from Blockbuster that was their choice. They got extra perks but they chose not to use them.

It was a great deal to those who were already paying for the Platinum package.

The use of "it was a great deal"....says it all, doesn't it?

Ok so here's my stupid question because I'm not quite sure on this whole thing. All of my HBO on demand and BBC on demand and all of that stuff is under blockbuster so will all of that go? On my hopper I push the Blockbuster button then sort by channels then I see them. So are they all going to be gone? Or there is probably some other way to get to that stuff without the BB button that I have never played around with.

Maybe Scott Greczkowski has some answers, he is connected to Dish more then anyone here is, or so it seems.

I think asking these questions is a good thing, nothing stupid about it. When the owner says things are going to change....expect things to change, not there is anything we can do about it.

I'm hopeful things may change for the better, I'm not assuming anything...but past experiences have given me pause.....:facepalm

I'm not complaining for the sake of doing so. I simply said I chose not to receive DVDs as the wait time was too long - because most of the selections I made were newer releases. That was my choice and I didn't use your extra little perk. Sue me if you'd like.

I would think because you will be a HBO sub still (assuming you are going to keep subing to HBO) you should be ok, HBO has its own VOD channel

Don' think so...at least not according to Dish. See bottom of page:
http://www.mydish.com/upgrades/blockbuster/

Here is a copy of the message the Dish supposedly sent stating that BB is available now in Puerto Rico and the USVI. It came from a local Dish reseller.

From Dish

October 1, 2012
We have great news for DISH customers and Retailers in Puerto Rico and
the U.S. Virgin Islands!
Effective October 1, 2012, the Blockbuster @Home add-on package
will be available for customers in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin
Islands to add to their DISH TV service for $10.00/mo.!
Blockbuster @Home gives customers access to over 100,000 movie and
TV show titles that they can get delivered right to their door, as well as 11
linear channels right on their TV!
Customers can also get thousands of titles streamed directly to their
Broadband-connected HD DVR receiver. A Broadband-connected HD DVR
receiver allows customers to experience the full benefits of Blockbuster
@Home; however, customers with HD or SD non-DVR receivers can still
subscribe to this package.

Would not be the first time that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing.

As many have mentioned if you don't have a BB close to you the value I think diminishes a bit. It's great to have a blockbuster close by to do the exchange, but as Scott said earlier, if you had the package already they added the blockbuster by mail just added a little frosting to the cake. Though I can see the frustration for those where it takes a while for mail and don't have a close BB. Our mailing center is here in Lansing, for me so the mail system works well to

Will be interesting to see how blockbuster will look in the future

Be careful if you are associated with Dish, even as a subscriber, I bet I could sue for damages claiming your dog took a crap on my lawn, and win.

It's on ROKU.....of which Dish is an investor. Be looking for more free Rokus when the BB phase out begins.

I wonder if the Sling adapter will be relegated to a paper weight? I read a thread here this morning that Sling is coming with a new unit also...? no tuner though...?
