I'm confused on this, was he caught doping(like Lance Armstrong)? Was he DUI/DWI in a crash that killed a team mate? So his girlfriend was a hoax,& he was either a part of the hoax or a victim of it. It must REALLY be a slow news day when this is the "scandal of the day." I haven't really researched this so I'm asking, was there a charity set up in the name of his "supposed" girlfriend who was supposed to have died? Was there criminal fraud involved here? So this is a question of his character & can he be trusted, like he's the first public sports figure that that's ever happened to.

It's unfortunately what has become of our news, whether it be sports, entertainment, political or otherwise. They have to sensationalize everything, instead of just reporting the facts and moving on.

If it really was one of the points of motivation for Notre Dame's season then they're the one sensationalizing it, not the news.

The hoax is hilarious, and points to either a deception he participated in at some point or some serious mental questions about him as a person. Could certainly hurt his draft stock. Did he find out and just never tell anyone out of embarrassment? Did he know and then not let on and work the sympathy into a more favorable shot at a heisman via sympathy?

I don't care, but to say it's nothing is silly, it's been part of the public sphere long before it was known to be a hoax.

Also, consider the irony of not liking it on TV but instead discussing it on a forum :p

Someone call Oprah, maybe she can get down to bottom of this too.

I agree, he comes out looking bad whether he was complicit in it or not.

If he had any part in creating or perpetuating the hoax, that's obviously bad.

If he truly was duped by all of this, how does someone have a 3-year online relationship with the "love of his life", and never meet her?? Not even when she had the alleged car accident, or when she was allegedly diagnosed with leukemia. What does that say about his mental and emotional abilities??

Who cares he is a star possibly in the making and everyone makes them out to be a role model and they are nothing more than another person :)

I started this thread out of frustration of watching Fox News(I was wanting to watch for news about Mali & the hostage crisis in Algeria) & they had to report this story every hour,or less,it seemed like. If he lied, did he lie under oath, did he lie to an FBI or other federal agent? If no law was broken, what's the point of this story?

If I remember correctly,Rafael Furcal lied about his age when he was an Atlanta Brave, but that never stopped other teams from wanting to sign him as shortstop when he was a free agent.

Blah...Sportscenter is just as bad as CNN,ABC,CBS,Fox,Msnbc,(insert pretty much any other news programmer here). Used to like watching Sportscenter many years ago,now I can't stand it.
