Just like the title says, I'm switching to the dark side.:D Called this morning through the AAA phone number so I get their discount as well. I'm getting the Genie and 1 mini client. I decided to go with the premier package although I might downgrade to something else after the 1st year is up. Overall, I'll be saving at least $419 over the next 24 months. Install is scheduled for Weds Feb. 6th. Hope everything goes a lot more smoothly than trying to switch to U-verse. I just have one question: How long does it take for the new account to show in their systems so I can setup my online account? They already gave me my account number and I tried registering but it says my account doesn't exist yet. Any idea how long it takes? Thanks.:)

give it 24-48 hours

also, skip the client and pop for either an h25 or a second dvr, it all cost the same per month

I don't feel like giving them another $99 for an H25 or more for another DVR. Besides 5 tuners is more than enough for my family for sure. I'll give it the 24 hours like you said and see what happens.

Do you have more than two televisions? If so, you need some manner of Set Top Box for each TV.

IIRC you've got a month to decide if you chose the right hardware. You have only 24 hours to decide that DIRECTV was the right choice.

I only have two TVs and I'm not planning on getting anymore anytime soon. I've already happily decided that D* was the right choice. I'm just waiting for the new account to show up in their systems so I can register and get the discounts going.

I signed up online late in the day the next day I could register so I would guess no longer than 8 hours.
Also don’t be concerned about the client it works fine a little slower than at the genie but it works great, love the genie

It depends on how much you record. There are days where I find the 5 tuner limit I reach rather easily....now that hockey is starting there are some nights I worry.
I live alone and have just the HR34 but tonight I have 5 things going at same time so I can only watch those programs. Having an extra tuner would be nice (hence the H25). Now 2 of them are on locals so thats why I've posted in a different thread it would be nice if D* implemented something where if you are recording more then one of the Big 4 (for ease) at same time it uses one tuner.

Monday there is a time where I have all 5 tuners used + one program that gets bumped to a late night showing because I have 5 things going. None are on Big 4 networks.

Again it all depends on how much you record and your viewing habits.

lack of a tuner in the c31 imho
With only two TV in the house I would not think it would be worth the 99.00
He will still have the 3 to record and two live if needed and the client is slick
Giving the full sitting at genie feel.
Now more than three TV then yes go for the a dvr or receiver

You might have to add an HR24 to you account iceberg. I can blow thru all available tuners as well my self.

I agree on that I record a lot so I paid for a hr24 I record everything and never watch live.
But I got a client for one room and I love it glad I went for it instead of the 25

Nights I use all 5 tuners and luckily I have an HR24 in my other room when needed to tape other things :)

I just got with Directv about a couple months ago. Ive been very happy. I havent had any issues with it except the Genie is a little slow for my taste, but thats not a deal breaker.

Mystery Solved

I was still trying to figure out over the weekend why I wasn't able to create an account. Well, I get a message from Directv yesterday saying that they couldn't confirm the e-mail address so I had to call them to confirm. Turned out the lady who took my order over the phone misspelled it (even though I repeated it twice) so I had them fix it. Then they send me an e-mail (finally) and when I read the e-mail, I noticed they misspelled my last name wrong :)facepalm) so I had to call them back to fix that too. Apparently the lady who took my order is either hard of hearing or was just dumb. Anyway I was finally able to create an online account and of course there's nothing on it since the install hasn't happened yet. It's scheduled for Feb. 6th and I can't wait! It's gonna be a long two weeks though.:)

We have the HR34 Genie and 2 C31 clients and so far the 5 tuners have served us well. Of course we only had 2 tuners to record from with DISH and between the 722k and 222k we had 4 tuners total.

I don't think we will ever get to the point of needing more than 5 tuners.

Congrats on your order!! We felt the same switching from DISH to Directv as far as the savings even after the first year.
