BB@ Home disc By Mail Ending September 19th

Well as the service wraps up in about a month maybe we should now look back at our favorite memories of the service, the highlights as you will :popcorn

Or maybe memories you thought you would have but didn't :)

I just got the notice but with one difference.... mine said I could keep the last disc as well so that tells me they are getting out of the dvd by mail game completely. really disappointing personally. I actually used the blurays to get the new releases to augment the streaming stuff since the stuff there is generally older.
That's what it tells me as well. They are probably liquidating/junking their inventory, and by having customers keep the disc, it saves them the cost of return shipping, and hassle of having to liquidate/junk the disc themselves.

The extremes.

Once, I returned a disc by mail at the post office at closing time, received the email notification at 07:10 the next morning that they received it, then received my next disc 2 days after that. Compare that to the 10-14 day notification window and another 10-14 days to receive the next disc and it's easy to see why I dropped the package several weeks ago....

I don't want to keep a copy of a very highly used DVD, so when I get my last disc, I will turn it in at my BB Store and get one more free movie.
It doesn't sound like that is the way it is going to work.

The way I read it, once you return the mailed disc, you'll get the next one in the queue if they have it and you'll get to keep that. They have no reason to deplete the store inventories... yet.

They can't go back to the HD Platinum name. Since now, Movieplex and FXM aren't in HD. I just love the complaints. "They're not dropping the $10 per month?" It was $10 before they incorporated the disc by mail option. I paid for it when EPIX was added.

Since games aren't available through the disc-at-home service (at least to my knowledge), no, it's only videos.

HD Platinum already had SD channels before it changed its name to Blockbuster...

ok, since disc rental is ending I decided to try some of the movies-on-demand. I selected three movies. After two spontaneous reboots, the movies were finally downloaded. Played back one of them and it has intermittent black screen with audio still playing, a few seconds of black then the picture comes back.

I remember now why I don't bother with on-demand.

Only real big issue I've had with downloading movies/shows from Dish is that it refused to properly download a episode of Spartacus, to the point where I bit the bullet, and took up Dish on their 6 month half off promotion for Starz. Aside from that, I've downloaded several shows/movies from Dish, and the playback/audio has been fine.

To me, the bigger problem with Dish On Demand is their interface . It's clunky, slow, and buggy. Netflix, on other hand, is generally smooth and easy to navigate. Even Prime's interface, which, to me, generally feels little secondary to Netflix (though, I will say I wish Netflix would follow Prime's suit, and list episodes under a title by season, not series), it is still helluva lot less frustrating than Dish.

I do not want to keep the store disc, just watch it and let them have it back. It is just one more disc that I will not have to rent from RedBox. I just returned a store disc and they sent me the next disc in my queue today. I will keep returning and getting new disc until Sept 19th or until they run out of disc.

Does the "keep the last disc" 'offer' include games or JUST (movie/TV show) DVDs?

No,only a movie or tv show. They aren't going to give away a game.I actually had pretty good luck getting ps3 games shipped to me.

I am pretty sure Dish used the phrase disc, not movie, or TV show.

Anyone still have the email for reference?

Edit: I still have the email, but the version that does not include message about keeping the disc as a gift.

As I quoted in an earlier post: Video Games must be returned.
"As our gift to you, your final by-mail movie or show is yours to keep! If you return your current title, we will do our best to send you the next title in your queue but cannot guarantee availability. To ensure you receive your gift, we recommend keeping your current title.

If you currently have a title from an in-store exchange or a video game, please return it and we will do our best to send you the next movie or show in your queue."

I went back and found on you tube the press conference for the blockbuster/Dish movie pass. Had potential, oh well was a interesting watch
