I recently had my direct tv equipment upgraded to Genie HD DVR & Genie Mini. My question is, will this equipment work on the old satellite dish (10 years old/3 feed horns). New equipment has a power source where the old didn't. Thanks in advance,

No, because the old dish is not an SWM dish and the Genie will only work on SWM.
The newer slimline dish (it's written on the dish) is upgradeable with an SWM LNB but you probably have a phase III dish (which is SD only) or a pre-Slimline HD dish, which is not upgradeable either.

You need to go to ebay and buy an SWM dish/LNB and power inserter, to match your existing dish.

Is dish round or oval shape. If oval shape - yes.

Now did you have two coax going to each receiver location or one. If one, you're ready to go. If not, you need read up on SWiM setups.

Hey, I appreciate the 2 replies. The dish is round with multiple coax coming from it. I figured it wouldn't work. I can get my hands on a dish that is oval and looks like the newest version of satellites. what do I need to look for (SN, markings) on the disk to work with my Genie mini and power inserter?

It's for an alternate location, I assume they frown upon that.
Well kinda of. You can call for a movers order and they will install your exiting equipment in the new house. Then you can can just move your receivers back and forth. Since you only have a genie and a mini there should be no concern about account stacking.

IF the alternate location is owned by him they should not care.

If 8ts someone else's place then you get into issues.

The plan is to take a receiver to the alternate place on holiday weekends but the weekend place still has the old satellite. With all the advice above, it sounds like all I need to do is replace the old with a slim line satellite, hook the mini & power injector up and I'm watching football, is this correct?

No, it needs to be a slimline SWM dish, which has only one cable coming from it. There is also a slimline non-SWM dish, with four cables.

As Texas mentioned, you'll need a SWM Slimline dish, not a regular slimline.

I fixed your quote in RED

for the record, there is only one Slimline dish. its the LNB (piece on the end of the dish arm) that is either SWM or legacy. once you have the requisite pieces, you can check the Tailgating thread for more information.

Correct, it's the LNB that makes the difference.
