SatelliteGuys has been notified that there will be an upcoming software update which will be required to continue watching 4K video on your C61K. Unfortunately DIRECTV did not tell us which software version to look out for.

Here is the information we have received.

As part of an upcoming software download, the C61K client’s authentication procedures will be changing, which means the client’s software needs to be updated before it can display 4K content. Previously, the C61K was only authenticated at the time of the initial pairing with the server, but now, authentication will be performed each time the client plays 4K content. We are making this change to maintain security compliance with our content providers.

It will be critical to ensure that the C61K client has updated to the most recent version of software PRIOR to attempting to verify 4K content. Failure to do so will result in the following error: “This program cannot be authorized for viewing at this location. Cannot Authorize.” The C61K will display HD programming before the software download commences.

that doesnt sound like fixing buggy software. that sounds like people messing around with the equipment.

Or else Hollywood's paranoia of it ....

Hope this doesn't cause another authentication debacle like with the dreaded HDMI one which still rears it's ugly head from time to time.

Where you are going to have C61Ks which should be authorized to play a 4K program incorrectly disqualified and preventing customers from watching a show. Then calling CS screaming bloody murder.

Just got 0xfb7 without forcing anything. Some of the secondary menus are cleaner with nice, thin fonts.

One of my 4k TVs lost 4k ability until I went into Display...TV Resolutions and readded 4k. The other TV retained it.

All primary menus, guide and list format looks the same.
