Just a minute. Comcast does the same thing in the Philly sports market. Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia is unavailable to those who do not subscribe to Comcast Cable.
But for the rules set by the FCC, I am certain, Comcast would do the same in markets where the company owns the RSN. However, Comcast can make it cost prohibitive to other providers to distribute the service so as long as the other providers pay the same price.

So the current ATT is a totally differently managed company than before 2005. It is headquartered in Dallas, TX It has 277K employees who gave it a rating of one of the best companies to work for. It was ranked as the 7th best company for employee diversity. I believe the 25k Time Warner,Inc employees will find a much better employment environment.

I oppose any consolidation where the consumer is deprived of choice.
I cite the airline industry. Carriers in a fit of merger mania swallowed up their competitors. Some out of sheer fiscal necessity some deal were "friendly"....The result is fewer choices for the consumer and higher fares. Since 2011 the remaining carriers are scoring record profits.
They all use the same business model. Smaller aircraft which means fewer seats per flight. Carriers also slashed the number of flights per day to popular destinations. By limiting the availability of the product, the demand was artificially increased.. Higher demand means higher prices.
The only airline that is an outlier is Southwest.

You know what else limits customers options and causes inflated prices? When the competition can no longer be competitive and has to price themselves out of the market. Consolidation is not always a bad thing, but it is something that you must approve with caution.

The FCC Chair and the members of the commission serve at the pleasure of the President. Meaning, as with any other POTUS appointee, the Chair ZCommission members as well) can be removed at any time at the sole discretion of the POTUS

According to the FCC's website, the commissioners are appointed by the president and serve five year terms, except when replacing a commissioner.

"Five Commissioners direct the FCC. They are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Only three Commissioners can be of the same political party at any given time and none can have a financial interest in any Commission-related business. The President selects one of the Commissioners to serve as Chairperson. All Commissioners, including the Chairperson, have five-year terms, except when filling an unexpired term."

As for that remark that Presidential appointees can be "removed at any time." I know that is not correct, at least with the FCC, and with Social Security (I work for Social Security) and the SSA commissioner serves a six year term. Of course, we've had a "interim" commissioner for four or five years now it seems.

Yup because Real Time and LWT it renewed through 2017 I believe and GoT is ending in 2018. So by summer of 2018 if you don't have those three shows what's there to stay for?

What could happen is the base price of HBO seems to be anywhere from $15(Now) -$19(DISH) DirecTV subs could get a $5 discount vs. other subs when adding HBO (owned by AT&T at this point) onto their DirecTV bill.(owned by AT&T) Of course this is such a moot point since right now I get HBO for $7.50 through DISH.

Not for nothing, Dish subs just got a big discount. $10 for life, if we subbed in a certain time. What's the difference?

But, such is not the case with NBC Boston.

They have (or had) two more options for a full power stations serving Boston (and not Manchester, NH) that they could attempt to buy, WWDP from EVine Inc or WYDN from Daystar, IF they REALLY care about serving the market. Sounds like they are just trying to line their pockets even more and screw OTA viewers in the process. I look for their experiment to become another WWJ-62 Detroit. At least WWJ was a full power station serving Detroit.

Where's your evidence? People speculated them buying other stations, including WFXT from Cox and WBPX from Ion. But, nothing was ever made certain as options. Fact is, they want a better station. Do you actually think they want worse penertration into Boston-Metro? It's their only current option.

The whole premise of appointing - not electing - is the party in power appoints people to do what they want. What would be the point otherwise? Rarely - though not unprecedented - will a President or party leader make a statement this person or that person will be voting they way they want. But of course the Party consults with these people and a strategy is arrived at.

The five Senate confirmed FTC commissioners are appointed for 7 year terms, with one term expiring each year. No more than 3 commissioners can be from the same political party. If a commissioner resigns, dies, etc., before his/her term expires, an appointed replacement only serves for the remainder of the original term. About the only power an incoming President has over the FTC is choosing which current commissioner serves as chairperson.

Even without such, I can't imagine any president would have much trouble ousting any commissioners.
