Only way to make sense of it is they're getting a #65-68 pick for him now rather than a #97ish pick for him in 2018.

They get the pick a year earlier, a better one, and control his destination rather than watching him finish out his career in New York or Buffalo.

Interesting tidbit from ESPN:

Since Sept. 1, 2014, the Patriots have made 21 trades that either involved a player leaving or coming to New England, the most of any team in the NFL, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Agreed. As much as I'm looking at it from a Patriots perspective, this trade makes no sense for the Browns either. I would be happier if the Patriots landed either Joe Haden or Joe Thomas

I was always under the impression that after this season that they were going to keep Collins or Hightower not both. I don't think in their cap situation they could pay 2 $12m/Year linebackers, If that's the situation than IMO they made the right call in keeping Hightower. Not to mention that Butler is a RFA after the season and they're going to want to try and keep Bennett and find a right tackle. I don't think it's a coincidence that the 2 defensive players that played the worst in last years AFC championship game are no longer on the team.(Collins and Jones)

I don't think Belichick is going to make a trade that makes the team worse. Do they always work out? No. But, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

I agree that I'd rather they keep Hightower, but that decision didn't have to be made until after the season. I think this trade was more about sending a message than anything else. But you're right, how can you argue with the success rate that BB has had. So until proven otherwise: "In Bill We Trust"

Wasn't it also the highest rated non-game 7 in more than a decade too?

Game 5 that saw the Cubs edge the Indians 3-2 on Sunday night pulled a 13.1/21 household rating/share with 23.6 million on FOX. That ranks as the most-watched World Series Game 5 since 1997’s 24.2 million for the then Florida Marlins vs the Indians. It was the highest-rated Game 5 since 2003’s 13.2/21 for the New York Yankees and Marlins and is the most-watched baseball telecast of any kind since the 2011 World Series Game 7 between the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals (25.4 million viewers).

A potential Game 7 tomorrow night may shatter the 2011 record. In fact, I think the Cubs win tonight. But then, Corey Kluber secures the MVP as the Indians win game 7

NFL ratings are indeed down on top of that, would be interested in seeing ratings the last 2-3 years compared to the usage of daily fantasy sites though. With those effectively squelched in many large markets for the time being I wonder what their effect on watcher enthusiasm is.
