happens every year, with every provider.

stations demand more and more money, and the cost gets passed along

Just checked the other day and my contract runs out on 1/5/17. Once I am on month to month, I will explore all options. Extra Innings and Sunday Ticket are the only things keeping me with DTV. I have other options for the ESPN family. Getting closer each year to leaving.

When Sunday Ticket ends I'm gone also. I have Dish Network owned equipment Vip 211K for locals with Welcome Pk. $20 month and going with Vue streaming for all the rest. I've tested Vue for a couple months now and very pleased.

Happens every year, yes. Stations demand more money, some do and some don't. AT&T buys Directv, yes. AT&T bundles wireless service with TV service, yes. "D" drops limited 4K channels to lower tiers, yes. Customers get rate increases to offset new operating costs including lucrative new customer incentives, yes. More and more subs jump ship to explore streaming services, yes. Directv announces new wireless streaming service, yes. The customer continues to bite the big one, yes.

I expect an increase every year, but $6 for Xtra, plus a possible RSN fee increase it a little more than makes me comfortable. If they would keep it in the $4 range I would probably absorb it without much fight, but more than that and I start looking at alternatives.

Honestly the alternatives are not much cheaper. I would argue that the amount of channels you get for DTV is still cheaper than a comparable cable package.

I will be curious to see if this increase happens at that rate that subs don't balk .... they will be calling in left and right .... the old D* would give discounts at that point.

If this does happen, I wanna see how much it goes up Next year.

With the dual and triple play deals that the cable companies run, you'd be hard pressed to prove that point. And 'amount of channels' is a bogus argument since it isn't the amount that matters, it is having the ones you actually will watch in a sub level that makes sense to you.

No..get rid of the unpopular ones..time to trim down..we will wait and see..so far lots of locals disputes with att incharge

There's always local disputes regardless, when D* was in charge they typically got worked out.

I'm all for getting rid of unpopular channels ... except as soon as that happens you'll hear people complaining because they watched it.

They can get rid of ALL the shopping and religious ones as far as I'm concerned.... but that's not gonna happen.

I mean it's time for someone to stand up to programmers and say enough is enough..if you review the history of uverse..att is a good candidate

IF they do, do that and end up dropping a channel, people will bitching that ATT is so terrible and that never happened with D*.
They can't win either way.

If the price continues to increase eventually Directv will be for the elite

dont you mean pay tv in general?
dish and directv are wihtnin a few dollars of one another, really its minimal.
cable? well its usually more

what needs to happen is no more promos to switch, no more credits, ect
just lower all prices to compensate
maybe throw in ala carte
yes it would cost more per channel
but those channels that people dont watch would disappear, freeing up bandwidth
