4k from BBCA

Sounds like a handshake issue with the HDMI input. I can recreate blank screen if while watching recording unplug HDMI from TV and go through non compliant HDMI switch (splitter). I lose the 4K and screen will go blank/black. To reset I need to reboot receiver but occasional it will come back if I just cycle power off/on.

Thanks, Camo! Could be. Saturday when this first happened I unplugged the HDMI cable, waited 5 seconds, & plugged back in without solving the issue. Reset did fix it. I know my cables are complaint. If no one else is experiencing an issue like this it has to have something to do with Dish. Either the outside dish is aimed wrong (doubtful) or the H3 is the problem (probable). I say probable because why would the recorded Planet Earth II, 4k not play at all? It had no sound, no picture until a reset of the H3.

I will investigate further! ;)

also noticed the time issue before deleting the 4k version because of the sound, kept the 135 version, and have hopes the replay on thursday may fix the audio !!?? :)
Deleted the bad sound version and have the Thursday version scheduled. Thanks for heads up on rebroadcast. I have a feeling new version will be fixed on audio.

I may have missed it earlier in the thread, but along with the poor audio of Attenborough out of the left channel, there was also no Closed Captioning.

Is that the case now with 4K broadcasts? No room (or standard) to present captions?

Exact same thing is happening to me.

Starting fresh (power-cycle and reboot of H3 and J4K), everything is fine.
J4K sees the DVR contents of the H3 server. I can play HD content on both.
They care connected by Moca. H3 is connected to the internet through Ethernet.

However, when I play the Planet earth II recorded in 4k on the J4K, it reboots my H3. I can play that recording on my H3 (connected to a 1080p set).

J4K firmware: U475 2/9/2017
H3 firmware: U343 2/9/2017

I have pictures of the diagnostics screen from both devices that I can email to Dish folks (it has serial #'s of the devices and smartcard ...)

PS: I posted this on Dish's forums but got no response there. Glad to know that I'm not alone..

Same with my attempts to play it on the 4k Joey. I've erased it and set a timer for Thursdays airing.

I recorded several programs during the olympics & the played just fine until the olympics were over. The recordings would still show in the list however they would not play back any longer. I set the BBC show to record & on playback all I got was the sand dunes.

I made one recording of the Olympics Closing ceremonies off of the 4K Channel. I moved that recording to my EHD. It still plays just fine in 4K...

Was your recording of the Planet Earth set to start early? You would see the Sand Dunes until the the actual start time. That's the way it worked for me. I saw the sand dunes until the actual start time and then it automatically flipped to the program start.

I forgot about it. Yes sounds much better.
Well after watching awhile noticed volume goes up and down but think its more to do with the original recording, especially around the Komodo dragons scene.

Rats! I got here too late for last night's re-airing, but it's set up for future recordings. Hoping against hope that BBC America repeats Ep. 1 before showing Episode 2.

Regarding the playback issues on our 4K Joeys, to be fair, DIsh's slate on 540 says "Hopper 3K and 4K TV required to view content in 4K". Nothing about the 4K Joey... :( :( :( :(

I noticed that too, and thought it odd they left the 4K Joey off that screen. Kinda seems like the main point of having a 4K Joey would be for 4K programming, doesn't it? Makes you think...

Really Samsung requires UHD color for HDR? Not my Sony's in fact I can't stand the exaggerated over done UHD colors.

I'm not real familiar with it. I don't think it's required. I just think it's an option. I was told in an AVS forum I should turn it on. But I read later that it was for HDR content. I just don't know if Dish 4K is considered HDR.

HDR is something a bit extra on 4K. My Vizio will automatically turn on HDR for programming that has it encoded. Planet Earth II is not an HDR program, just 4K....

Samsung's UHD Color is merely a "switch" that automatically triggers when 10 bit or higher signals are detected. It has nothing to do with color "enhancement or whatever. So, say you robbed a bank and bought the latest and greatest 4k HDR BluRay. Instead of having to manually set the TV for HDR material (on the same input), It does it automatically. That's all it is. HDR is the color monster.
