Some channels are becoming borderline unwatchable with what I'm assuming is compression. Prime example is today's Lions Vikings game on channel 5- artifacts, blurry, awful. It looks like 1997. I switch to my AppleTV Gen 4, load up Fox Sports Go and the stream is 100000x sharper, clearer and no compression.

I guess I really have no options here other than streams and maybe OTA antenna?

I'm watching that game and my picture is Crystal clear.

Agree, I'm watching OTA in Minneapolis and it is still garbage. FOX is terrible, local subchannels, satellite compression, no one gives a rats ass about quality anymore. I have noise reduction cranked in order to make it watchable.

Thank you. I didn't think I'd be the only one to notice this. 65" Samsung KS8000 here.

Obviously this will vary by market as Fox is a local channel. We need to know what "channel 5" is. I have two Fox affiliates WFFF and WFXT and they both look good. However, when games are on NBC, I see a difference on different affiliates. Streaming looks choppy unless you have perfect Internet...

Well if FOX's signal is crap OTA, then DIRECTV is not at fault of course ...

"Garbage in Garbage out" as it goes ...

As (usually at least) DIRECTV is simply receiving the same OTA signal at their in market LRF and re-encoding it for their system and broadcasting over satellite.

You'll have to complain to the local station management about poor PQ.

While they are talking to the Chief Engineer, ask him if they are OTA delivered or Fiber delivered, from thier location to D*.
It varies from market to market.

Since going to a 75", Directv aint that hot any more. And it is true, I can fire up FS Go or Watch ESPN on a device and get better image quality than Directv.

They have fallen behind as TV's got larger. They still look outrageously good on my 42" Panasonic Plasma from 2009. I've found many streams to be far better quality than what Directv is pumping out these days.

I didn't think of this.

It seems as if Directv is grabbing the signal for WNYW at the WWOR channel 9 facility at

9 Broadcast Plaza

Do we call their engineer in these instances or no point?

I use Amazon Channels for my HBO, Cinemax, etc... type stuff. Things like Ray Donovan and Game of Thrones look WAY better than via Directv.

Same here. I'm still stuck though because I do appreciate the value of having access to all the sports I do in every room of the house. Not just the one or two smart tv's and apple tv's etc. Otherwise I'm more than ready to make the jump. Only issue that isn't solved reliably/legally is being blacked out of most local market streams in most sports.

Much easier to do that b way, provided you can afford the required internet ...

Call the Engineer, he'll be happy to talk with you but it ...
Any time I've talked with them they are happy to talk to you.
