It goes into the rim joist and it's to protect the cable through the joist. What are they called and where can I get one?

Its a "feed through bushing" for cables and wires. If you Google it, you will find a lot of places they are available. They come in different lengths and sizes

That's it, I just couldn't come up with the name. Thanks!

That is an old electrical Knob and tube part!....Wire wrapped around knob, and the tube sent the wire down the wall...

Just go buy some nipples (any length that works) and but matching fiber bushings (which are now plastic) and screw it on the end you need.
Been a long time I even saw those old ceramic tubes!

It's plastic, not ceramic. And it's out of my house which was built in 1950, so no knob and tube here.

Dont kid yourself.....Its still around, and its sold made out of nylon.....If its code when installed, you can still use it!...Why someone would?
Outlets have been banned to be stablocked....You still see resepticals with stablocks on it....

Pony breakers..outlawed, still get them

Despar switches outlawed, still buy them

I've heard of a pony panel, what's a pony breaker? And like I said, my house never had knob and tube.

Ah. I have many of these. I paid to replace my main panel, specifying Square D. Came home, what do you think the electrician installed?

Why do you think these are illegal?
They are legal as far as I know but limited to some panels brands and frowned upon by home inspectors due to the additional wires they crowed up the panel. So if you are using one or two that's fine, I wouldn't go load up an entire panel with them.

AKA tandem breakers

Chip,

My first glance at it was as said here, a knob and tube insulator and I have used them in the past to pass wires through them as you are.

It's similar to a knob and tube insulator, but being plastic, I doubt that's it's original use. Weren't they all ceramic?

I see what your looking at often in older homes, they use to use it for running phone lines or cable lines into a basement in most cases, I believe most of them are plastic ...
We don't carry them so I gotta believe its an item that isn't used or made (at least for that application) anymore.

Probably because you don't need to insulate anymore, it just makes a nice small conduit but honestly they were replaced with "Feed Thru bushings"

Simply put, to many "electricians" would use 3 conductor with a ground on the breaker....That doubles the load on the neutral.....Other reason is they run far to hot with very little load on them! One breaker space now just doubled with heat.
Breaker does 2 things....trip on shorts, and over current protection...(problem is on over current its from heat, so a 15 amp breaker all you need is 10 amps on each pole and you start getting random trips, and it gets worse and worse over time!)

Same goes for Despar multi gange switches. (3 switches in a single gange opening)

If the double breakers were so dangerous, why can you still buy them and the service panel they go in?
