Needs tips for new installation today

If it is not a Hopper 3, do this: refuse to let the install happen unless it can be changed to a Hopper 3. If you are concerned about your Belmont party tomorrow, simply move the 622 to the 722 location temporarily and you should be golden. Then get your order changed to a Hopper 3 at your convenience....

i honestly tried for the initial install, but when i called his mother answered and said he was not at home.......
seriously, i didnt call back or leave a number

That's not cool. The herd has been thinned in the last several years and stuff like that doesn't usually happen anymore. The very little guys have been eliminated through minimum sales, insurance and a bunch of other requirements. There used to be at least 6 Dish 'retailers' within 50 miles of us and now there's just us. :)

I must emphasize the suggestion already made: Accept only an H3. It will be a black box with a red horizontal stripe. Moving the ViP622 to support your party is a great idea. Accepting an older, much slower Hopper will make you quite unhappy.

Normally, yes, based on previous posts. Certainly cable, connectors and small parts. And unless there is a short supply, a few STBs.

Waiting for another ViP722 is waiting for another elderly piece of hardware, with an elderly HDD. Especially considering that the VIPs are expected to not be long for this world.
Those same elderly HDD's are still being re-deployed to this day in Hopper Duos, so they must still have some life left in them. :p

I would think any tech should have a few H3's on his truck anyway, right? Or are they becoming rare?
No, they're not,. This is one thing I see on here a lot, like techs only carry the bare minimum of equipment and only what's in a work order. Not true. Other than maybe some rare exception, vans are loaded to deal with any situation. If i Have 3 Hopper 3 installs, I carry 5, et al. And I know that's pretty consistent for most if not all techs. Every time I see "If he doesn't have....." I just roll my eyes

My trusty 722K died this morning. Will not turn on. I also have a 622 in the bedroom. Contacted dish chat and they said they will replace the 722 but it would take several days to ship and that was the only way I could get a replacement. Problem with that is I have set up a huge Belmont (Triple Crown) party and 20 people are coming in to watch it on my projector screen in my home theater. This ruined everything. The rep said she could get me a free upgrade to Joey and Hooper and that could be installed today. I don't know a thing about those receivers. She said they would replace both the 722 and 622 and also the dish itself and all wires. The cost each month only goes up slightly so I said lets do the upgrade today or my party would be ruined.

Now, because I don't have a clue what these contraptions are like (I will study them this morning on the dish website), can any experienced user or Hooper and Joey give me tips to watch for when the install is made? Anything the technician should check before I sign the paper work? Will all my movies on my external hard drive that I have archived from the 722 still work with these new devices? Can I still archive to the external hard drive? I just don't know enough at this point and need some tips so I can make sure the technician installing this equipment covers all the bases he needs to cover.
In 2014, I got upgraded from DVR Duo to the Hopper. It would shut off the by itself, and after a number of complaints on Facebook Chat, I scheduled a another tech visit, and got the same tech, and he changed wiring he should have changed months before. He then asked if I wanted to upgrade to the Hopper 3, and I said yes. I am very happy, that I did it, and I have not regretted it. Just make sure that the wiring is updated. If that is something you need to know, make sure that the wiring is updated.

Yes, the wiring had to be updated. Well, here is my report on the installation. BTW, moving the 622 to the home theater room for the part today would have worked and was a good idea. However, I am happy with the installation with the one caveat that I probably did not get the Hopper 3. It was a young fellow (I'll be 70 in a couple months so anyone is a "young" fellow to me) and he worked for hours to get it right. He showed up at 1:30 and did not finish until 5:45. The old wiring was the big problem. The run was too long to give a good signal strength to the Hopper which was placed in the home theater room. The run was much shorter for the Joey which was placed in the bedroom so he finally rewired that section through the attic from the dish itself and moved the Hopper to the bedroom and the Joey to the home theater. That provide the strength he needed finally. He said the Joey works off the strength of the Hopper so the longer run would now not be a factor and the new wiring would enhance the performance of the Hopper. He went through two Hoppers. Yes, the Joey is a 3 and I thought the Hopper was too, he indicated it would be but it does not have a red bar going the length of the bottom. I just took a look at the Amazon photo of the newest Hopper and it has the red bar, mine does not so I will call them this morning.

I played with the thing all night and I like it better than the 722. Now I have to find out what model Hopper I have. It does not say on the front of the device.
