Star Trek Discovery

It won't affect Star Trek. I liked it for what it was. Much as many hated Enterprise, it was actually my favorite.

I've enjoyed Orville, but still have 4 episodes left to watch. Too many shows of interest around the world and not enough time.

Speaking of ST, last night I finished catching up on ST Enterprise on my Fire TV Stick. What a God-awful ending to that series! What were they thinking?

IIRC, the series came to an abrupt end after the 4th season, instead of the usual 7. They probably had little time to come up with a good series conclusion.

Although, Voyager's concluding episode was just as head-scratching, which I watched recently on H&I.

I believe it was during filming of the 19th episode "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II", when the cast was informed that Enterprise had been cancelled (3 episodes prior to filming the Season 4 finale), so it didn't give Berman and Braga much time to come up with an appropriate ending. That being said, they could've done a much better job than just rehashing an episode of TNG through use of the holodeck. Realistically, if it were up to me, it should've been a 2-part finale. Could've still had the base storyline of forming the Federation, but maybe had the Romulans plotting something to stop them, one last time. And no TNG holodeck part at all.

Incidentally, I actually liked Voyager's ending. It had a lot more action than DS9's final episode, which was basically a talker with no action whatsoever (Part 1 was good; Part 2 was boring), and Sisko sacrificing himself (which imo shouldn't have been necessary).

I agree with both paragraphs. ST Enterprise was left hanging with numerous plot lines never resolved. I did not like "In a Mirror, Darkly" at all and didn't see the point to such an offshoot storyline.

But ST Voyager's finale was pretty decent IMHO. I watched it again last night on instigation of dare2be. The only thing that bothers me was a comment from the queen to the effect that the Borg destruction cannot happen with Admiral Janeway altering her own past like that. Yet they were destroyed. Is this a paradox?

STE was the victim of the UPN/WB merger. By declaring a tie in the attempt to be the 5th network, CBS had no reason to fund what was by far the most expensive show on either network. This led to a quick ending, but really the show had lost its way when it went into all the heavy-handed 9-11 analogies in season 3.

As to the other endings, STNG was solid. The show was still fresh and they tied it up back to the start. The original never had an ending, and the last episode filmed was among its worst. I found STV's ending to be quite contrived. You knew from the beginning of the series what was going to happen. Of course the entire premise of the series was unrealistic. Facing a lifetime long journey back home through hostile country, you find the nearest Class M and make babies. STDS9 resolved all the outstanding issues, but I really had ceased to care by that point.

I had a somewhat opposite reaction.

I never liked poorly done time travel episodes due to the paradoxes involved (TNG's Time's Arrow was a refreshing exception). To use time travel as the critical vehicle for getting Voyager home was in my opinion just lazy.

On the other hand, at the time of the airing, it was nostalgic for me to see Riker and Troi reprised in the ENT finale. Pegasus was one of my favorite TNG episodes and I liked how they incorporated Riker's indecision into the "historical" events of ENT. ENT had already been subject to too much time travel content (temporal cold war), so I was glad they didn't incorporate time travel into the finale, especially with production being rushed and all.

TNG's finale included time travel, but I enjoyed it for tying in the intro, the new scientific concepts introduced (anti-time), and the bad-ass Enterprise with 3 warp nacelles. :)

Like The Orville? I had forgotten that bit. I may have to watch that as well, unless it's another damnable Q story... I really hated those.

Dang. It was another Q story. :( Am I the only one who can't stand that brat with godlike powers?

The only Q stories I like was when he introduced the Borg to the Enterprise Crew and the Robin Hood episode.
