True. I guess you will need to wait for the new Android TV based client since it runs the apps not the server (presumably HS27 in this case)

Since Directv is talking about the new 'Directv over IP' in Q2 this year, which is when the client would be publicly released, one would think we should see the client and next gen Genie 2 for satellite sometime later this year. Could be the CE folks are already testing it for all I know.

They're not, at least there is no mention of it on the CE site. If there is any testing, it is not public in any way. I have the latest CE software, if the latest NR has the progress bar much less intrusive (meaning it's a box instead of the black fading shroud) than it used to be, then there isn't much different in CE vs NR.

Although the ESPN app is much less useful now with the creation of ESPN+

Hardware testing is never mentioned on the CE site. Just software It is just usually some of those guys get to test hardware before it is released. We should see a FCC document on the HS27 like we did for the HS17 almost a year before it got released. Those same CE testers tested the device for several months but it was never mentioned on that site. Those guys are usually on a heavy NDA
 
Well it was a hard decision but I finally decided to cut the cord and DirecTV is out at my house. I really didn't want to get rid of cable but it was getting very expensive and our TV viewing habits don't justify paying almost $200. Went with DirecTV now we'll see how it goes...

So the Directv is still in your house, just using a different entrance :cool:
 
It looks like using a streaming service (Sling or Hulu) can provide the channels I want at roughly half the D* price. My issue is that I do not have internet options (only Hughesnet). If I can solve the internet issue I would leave D* (This from a 25+ year subscriber).
 
today dtv lost me as a customer. I had the lowest package available and 2 receivers and it was still over $100. I called and canceled and the operator wasn’t even interested in keeping a loyal customer. I’ve been with them for years. At one time I got $60 off for a few months but she wouldn’t even entertain that idea.

I canceled service today. Offered $50 off for a year but I declined.
 
I don’t think Directv now would work for me, I can’t even get there on demand or start from beginning to work on my internet. Have no problem watching streaming on my Apple Tv

directv on demand via the receivers is flaky, per reports on directv forums

directv now is internet based and should be better
trying to compare the two is really apples and oranges

D* on demand has all ways been poor ... then again, you can't expect it to be Netflix ... regardless its poor in my opinion.

That said, I had a chance to see and play a bit with D* Now and liked it very much.

Which has nothing to do with the price increase ...
