Hopefully I can do a self-install as I am a tinkerer and installing and setting up the stuff is half the fun of watching TV!
Can I use my existing dish? I have a 33" disk KUband on fta but I want to get orby later on and pay as I go and have something to watch incase I need to hold out on a payment. I want to avoid needing to put in another disk if possible.
I have a 33" offset KUBand dish I just bought, and haven't set up yet. It will be replacing a 32" fta slimline disk I have set up for KUBand. I already bought a new dish so I think having to get one all over again from orby will imo be a waste of time and money if what I have already can accomplish the same

so can I get the box bought, not borrowed, and activate it myself or will the company not let me do this?
I no some companies will be fussy about this for whatever reason.
Its just that I want to set up the stuff on my own its both educational, I can set it how I want it and how I will know where everything is and what goes to what.

can I buy the equipment instead of borrowing it from orby, and how expensive would one receiver be?>
how much is the $40 month access card?
Thinking of buying the receiver, access card, and necessary LNBs and remotes and motors, signal switchers or whatever. If I can only have one system connected to my single disk at a time, that won't be a problem.

Hello edugamer,

You can purchase the receivers from re-sellers, Best Buy or from OrbyTV direct online, $100 for the Receiver, $200 for the DVR receiver. Claude is selling brand new OrbyTV DVR's for $180 shipped (https://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads/orby-tv-dvr.384108/), which is $20 off list, to help support the Forum. The DVR service is a flat $4/m for one or four receivers. You select the package you want when you sign-up online and can change it from month to month to suite your needs.

On the OrbyTV site, you can purchase their self-install dish install package (Dish, LNB, mount and OTA antenna) for $70 but it does not include coax or a signal meter. For $150, you can get professional install, which also includes the dish, LNB, mount, ota antenna, coax and provides a 1-year warranty.

If you want to try to install it yourself, I would recommenced purchasing a larger FTA dish, such as a 39-inch (36 Inch 90 cm Free To Air FTA Satellite Dish & HD LNBF | eBay) which also includes a compatible linear LNB. You are going to also need a signal meter capable of DVB-S2 to aim the dish.

Here's my ebay dish. 30" ku on a home made mount. Works fine for my camper.
I also have orby in the house.

mind blown!
this is so awesome!
I have a lot of that stuff already.
So excited to get this!
I most likely will be getting one or two boxes one for my bedroom and one for the family.
does it go up to $80 month if I get the two receivers or is it I can have up to two tied to that account?
I have a phase lock linear lnb, 33" offset dish, two satfinders, and two slimline football dishes.
I am sure I will get it going great!
My KUBand is 33", while I read the one you can get from the company is a tiny football dish and it has an antenna. Im getting a yegi antenna soon too which probably will work through diplexer

OrbyTV allows up to four recievers per account with no additional fees.

Get on the OrbyTV mailing list or follow on face book. A few times in the past months, both the standard STB and the DVR have been half price.

Yes, you may use the 33" dish, but be sure to have a standard LO 10750 LNBF. A universal LO 9750/10600 LNBF will not work. BTW, your converted slimline dish should work as well!

awesome!
I have two, one is one that came with a cheap FTA dish set and it claims to be phase lock. It is linear and is the type that slots into a ring holder at the end of the arm. This is the one included with the disk set I bought: 33" HIGH QUALITY KU-BAND SATELLITE DISH ANTENNA + LINEAR FTA 10.75 LNB 97 30 36 733989508204 | eBay
The other one is this:
LINEAR DUAL LNB FSS SATELLITE LNBF FOR VIEWSAT PANSAT | eBay
hopefully one of them will work.
They both are linear polarized.
Does it have to say vertical polarization only?

I wonder why I never heard of this awesome company before.
very excited and /I am set on getting it.
It looks like they are more DIY friendly as well! Finally a DIY-positive company I already love this company and I haven't even gotten the gear yet! Getting my gear and subbing next month for sure!
thanks for all the info

The best thing about orby is they are not using multiple satellites and complex lnbf / multiswitch setups. Simple straight forward system that works! I love it.

This may also be the worst thing about Orby: One polarity isn't a lot of bandwidth if you want to add channels or offer higher quality audio and video.

It seems pretty obvious to me that Orby had intended that they would be doing the installations. What perhaps makes things complicated is throwing in a mish-mash of frankenparts at a problem that already has a very tidy solution.

Needs to have an LO of 10750, not one with an LO of 9750/10600.

awesome!
the one supplied with my 33" KUBand disk is specced at LO of 10.750
it is the one that uses the cuff type holder
Dumb question, what sets a universal lnb apart from strictly linear ones?
the mount?
or the LO spec?
or do the universal ones have the ability of picking up linear, circular and outputting different

that is ok by me!
2channel stereo is fine and I watch VCR movies all the time and don't notice anything I have a 40" tv and I have poor eye sight anyways so it'll work great!

Yes and hopefully they can lease another transponder for more programming. It's a great service, cheaper prices, no long term contracts and just one bird making pointing so much easier. None of that dithering, and checkswitch business. Give the other MPVD's a run for their money!.

Unless you're a RVer, I'm not convinced that this should matter.

There's a place, but probably not a big market. The difference with the other MVPDs is that they offer more channels to choose from and what you do choose typically comes with higher quality picture and sound.
