2020-21 NCAA Football Thread

Not really, 1-loss teams for other conferences have made it in (Oregon, Ohio St (twice), Clempson, Michigan St, Washington, and Oklahoma (four times), in addition to Georgia and Alabama (3 times).

In each case that a 1-loss team got in, there was no other undefeated P5 team available. There has never been a 2-loss team to get in. So where is the SEC advantage?

Even in the year where the SEC got 2 teams in, the Big Ten and Pac 12 Champions had 2 losses apiece. If Ohio St had lost to Wisconsin, then Alabama would have been left out in favor of Wisconsin, so blame your team for Alabama getting in (personally I think UCF should have been chosen that year instead of Alabama).
I agree with what you said, but that was PREVIOUS years ...
With them only playing 8-10 games this year, I think it will be harder to get in with a loss, unless somehow everyone has one.

Depends on what the committee decides to emphasize this year ....

It should end up all 4 conference winners (provided records are comparable) ... but you never know.

That’s a good point you make. Reduced schedules will make a difference this season. Gonna be interesting.

Simple solution, don't lose.

The Big Ten playing only 8 games, while the ACC plays 11 and the SEC & Big 12 play 10 is no one's fault except their own.

Wow ... really ?

2 games more is a big deal ?
Big Ten at least THOUGHT about being responsible and looked into the issues before just saying, "We don't care about it, were gonna play regardless."

We could ALL play a full schedule if you could count on players and coaches and staff not getting in contact with the virus.

I think they are all doing a good job for them most part, its the Contact tracing thats screwing teams up.

If you tried hard enough you could find we've all been in contact with someone if you trace far enough.

When the difference is 8 & 10, then yes 2 games (20%) is a big deal.
Big Ten originally was going with a 10 game ...
All the conferences lost time this year with the Covid stuff ...

SEC missed potential for 3 more games, so its not like the Big Ten held everyone back ...
The Pac is still out, not knowing when they are going to start ...
If they do come back, it will be because of the Big Ten coming back ...
Otherwise they won't be back till Thanksgiving or even later.

The Big Ten wants to still be a part of the CFP ....
I think at this point, theres no way for the Pac teams to be included.

The fact that the Big Ten is only playing 8 games is why I said earlier that I don't see anyone getting into the playoffs with a loss, unless everyone else also has a loss.

True, a single loss will eliminate you if there's enough undefeated P5 teams to get in.

Do you think that will be true in the SEC as well ?
Or the ACC ??
Either Clemson or Notre Dame will be getting in in the ACC. (1 will lose to the other)
Don't know. The SEC front office was very helpful in making sure that the 2 non-division teams added to LSU, Georgia, and Alabama's schedules were bottom feeder teams.

But due to conference championship games, there will be a max of 4 undefeated P5 teams. So a 1-loss Champion should get in.

I dont think it was as targeted as some like to think. I am only using alabama as an example, as I havent followed it as much for everyone else this season.

Bama already had Georgia and Tennessee scheduled. Florida aside, who else is really picked to be all that good in the East this year? South Carolina or Vandy? No, neither of those would be much better or worse than Missouri. Kentucky is ranked in this neutered poll that we have so far, and is the fourth team out of the east in the top 25. So of the four top 25 ranked east teams (or four predicted best in that division if you want to word it that way instead), Bama is scheduled to play three of them.

As to the others, I have no idea who they got added.

Thats better .... earlier it was mentioned that it may be played next week, one week after it was cancelled ...

Wasn't it reported that if player(s) have a positive Covid test, they would be out for 21 days ?

You would think that if they are getting checked every day or two, that once they got a negative test 2 days in a row, they should be good to go ...

I’m not sure but isn’t a positive result an automatic 14 day quarantine?

I think that changes, not sure how, but last I saw it was a 10 day quarantine now.

Then why was 21 days for a positive test being reported ?
14 days is better ... not a lot, but some.
