Official 622 L4.01 Discussion Thread

ever since 4,01 my 622 has problems with the switch or signal problems.
I get messages to check my switch and after check I get a message that lnb is drifting, then call dish and tech says that is normal, never had it before.
Next I get a message on screen that signal has been lost check for something blocking the satellite. Run a check switch again and it comes back normal.
Wish I still had 366 back.

I'm amazed by the varying experience.....

I got the version given to the BetaBugs people and it has been rocksolid with only one noticeable complaint.... The FF/REW trick play is choppy and not too smooth anymore.

The Side by Side PIP is a huge improvement (Still can't figure out why they didn't make the boxes equal in size, but it is much better than the other PIP screens that block content.... My wife was watching American Idol with the sound, while I got to watch my Mets game off to the side. Marital Bliss was never so easy to achieve....

Once again, I don't use the OTA function, my channels are from the New York HD locals (recently upgraded to Mpeg4, from the faux Mpeg4 (Mpeg2 with a flag calling it Mpeg4 so only newer Hd receivers can see it)), which may explain why I am having less issues. Plus I have 2 SW64s feeding 5 PVRs so my setup may be more 4.01 friendly, I don't know....

It's like you can never really relax and let your guard down with them. They always find a way to piss you off.:(

No doubt. I had just solved my 129 problems (no thanks to Dish) and was finally in a happy place with my 622. Then along came L4.01

Now #1 on my 622 wish list is a software rollback option. :(

Yes, isn't is bizarre how so many of us can have little or no trouble, yet others are screaming- with the "same" STB? Do they not test all the switch/satellite combinations? Motherboard changes don't seem to be it- but who knows?

I bet they never thought to test all the switch/satellite combos. Amazing that it could be true, but I'd be very surprised if they did --up until this release, however.

What I am wondering is how seriously are they taking the complaints; back in '06, the L3.63 fiasco generated almost universal outrage. Of course they did a full spool. This time they did a phased spool, and not everybody is having problems. And indeed, it blows me away the differences between say my experience and that of Long_Time_DNC...

Now #1 on my 622 wish list is a software rollback option. :(

Since the 4.01 update I've gotten:

Screaming banshee reboots
Recordings getting broken into multiple pieces due to screaming banshee reboots
Regularly losing sound (over HDMI), requiring a reboot

Thanks Dish!

P.S. At least my channel changes don't appear to be any slower - two seconds to get sound, four seconds for picture, this is with HDMI.

New to the HD/Satellite world...

Just got my vip622 installed. Things seem to be working amazingly well but I do have one minor issue/annoyance.

vip622 receiver (version L4.01 software)
Sharp Aquos L46D62U LCD TV
connected via HDMI.

Here's the issue. When turning on the 622 and the TV the remote control refuses to work for about 45 seconds. If I turn the TV on first the receiver won't turn on with the remote for about 45 seconds. If I turn the receiver on first the remote works until the TV is turned on. Then the remote ceases to function for about 45 seconds. After that, all is well until the next time things are turned on.

So it seems there is some sort of issue between the TV and the 622 via HDMI. Has anyone else seen this on other combinations of the 622 and TV brand? Is there some sort of negotiation between the 622 and the TV at startup when connected via HDMI?

Thanks for any suggestions.:)

Well my 622 now experiences multiple reboots a day too. It did it six times yesterday. I fixing to get pi$$ed about this.

I probably shouldn't say this for fear of spooking my 622 but it has been running pretty darn good. No reboots, no more blackouts, and no screaming banshees.
My only leftover complaint is the choppy fast forward and reverse and unreliable closed captioning.

I've got my 129 dish point close to perfect at the moment, and am too far away to get OTA reliably so don't watch it either. These may be two factors in my good results. (so far......)

Even though I never signed up to be a beta tester for L4.01, I received it the first night. I have never had any problems with L4.01, and I've used every function extensively. Go figure...

The screech reboot

I was in the 2nd run of L401 upgrades. I asked for it I got it. Not an official beta tester.
The screech hit me last night 1st screech, 3rd reboot since L401. Here are my stats.
1) Single or dual mode?
Single Mode
2) When it happened, what channel and what type of audio where you watching. Was it DD 5.1, PCM, DD 2.0 etc.
DVR'd event auto select audio, It was an OTA event
3) Type of audio connection.
component video w/optical connection audio
4) 622 revision number.
L 4.01
5) Did it just happen on its own or was it a result of a an remote action?
On its own. No clue as to it was going to happen
6) How many times have you experienced this.
1st screech, 3rd reboot since L401
7) Was it Delayed, Live, or recorded content.
DVR'd
8) Where you able to get it to stop making the screech? if so, what did you do? PIP swap, jump back, channel change etc.
Rebooted after I hit stop
9) If recorded material, does replying the same scene cause it to happen again
No played perfect but it restarted from the start of the show not at the point that it locked up

After my one complete lock-up that required a power plug reset, things have been relatively OK. Still stuck with the slow MPEG4 channel changes (channels off 129 are the worst) and the awful FF and Rewind jerkiness. Sounds like others are much worse off. :(

I recieved 4.01 along with everyone else last week, so far I like all of the new features. I am having one problem that is driving me crazy. With the OTA changes, my signal for my CBS OTA station went from ~95 signal to 100 signal. But now it drops outs fairly often and i get the message saying part of the recording has been lost. Before this update, I almost never had any dropouts with this channel.

All of my other OTA channels improved by about 5 on their signal values, but none of them are having drop out issues. I live about 25miles from the transmitters and I am using an antennae in my attic with an amplifier. I haven't removed the amplifier (I will try that later), but I am sure I will lose some channels as I have a couple of 60-70 signal channels.

How many other people are seeing this issue?

This is *EXACTLY* the same problem that I am experiencing. (And I'm also in Ashburn, Va.)

CBS HD OTA at 100% signal, but frequently hiccups and will also generate a 739 error (i.e., lost OTA signal). Several glitches per hour. Problem only since 4.01 update.

Two calls to E* tech support... first tried the standard reset... second was the power cord reset. Neither has helped.

This problem made the Final Four difficult to watch.... and it is similarly affecting The Masters right now.

Help!

My 602 after getting 4.01 said signal lost. I did a check switch and it went ok but instead of showing good at the top of screen when all satellites are showing green, it says switch is drifting.
I called dish and they had me do allot of testing and determined I needed new lnbs . Installer came out and replaced the lnbs did a switch check and now it works good.
How can a software upgrade screw up the lnb;s.

You have to speculate that the LNBs are just fine but that the code that does the communication between the receiver and switch (and LNB ?) got screwed up. See how long before these new LNBs exhibit the same problem.... :D

I woke up yesterday morning to a black-screen-of-death scenario. There was still audio, and if I used PIP I could see partial video in the PIP area but still blackness everywhere else (with audio). Reboot time!
