Is my new xbox 360 really in that much danger of failing? I of course got the warranty through microsoft instead of smartly getting it through best buy or local store. I got it one month ago, no problems so far, but many forums lead me to believe if my xbox fails, im funked. MS repairs is a nightmare apparently.

Thoughts or insights? All appreciated.

Are you saying that Microsoft would release a product that is unfit? Surely you jest! All of Microsofts products are put through thorough quality assurance testing, delivering products that only a fine, honest, innovative, outstanding company like Microsoft, can deliver, I mean, games on a console!! Whoda thunk it!

Kidding, the X360, like most of these new consoles, are overpriced, disposable, badly engineered junk, enjoy it till the console, and the warrantee burns out, then buy a new one, wash, rinse, repeat, dealing with Microsoft support (on the OS server end), I know all too well about how their support works[not], based on that alone, I will never own a Xbox, even if Bill Gates came over and pulled one out of his ass just for me, I would rather get 400 dollars in quarters and pitch them down a sewer rather than put it down on an XBox, I would rather.... well, you get the point, before you get mad, remember, you said "All". ;)

Yea alot of launch 360's broke! It seems the newer one's use better drives and parts. Still too early to tell. I know i was told this was a big problem and if you get a year out of the first 360's you were lucky. Mine lasted a year and a day. Three to five days for me to get the box two weeks for them to fix the 360 three to five back. (Pray it does not do it for at least a year. There is a poor guy on this very forum who has gone through at least FIVE.

I had a xbox360 on lauched day it lasted till 2 months ago. I bought the warrenty thru Microsoft. Which took almost 2 weeks to turn around. Its the heat that kills it. I would make should you keep it cool , not by using those fans that attached to your system ( that voids warrenty) put a small fan behind it to draw it away. Just remember you may draw dust into it too so full speed is not needed. Vacume the system every couple of weeks too. I would like to get the newer cooler version coming out but, I am spending what little money on my sats systems. Remember the key to the 360 is breathing if you put it in a cabinet measure the temp. I cut a hole ine the back and went to rat shack got a cooling fan and put that in.

Thats the point we should not have to put a fan behind the system. I mean come on get it right. Vacuum the system is fine dust happens. The heat issue sucks. your system should have lasted longer there is no doubt about it. My 360 sits on a glass stand well ventilated. My wife in the summer keeps it 68 at the highest in the house.

fifth came with no face plate so it took 6 shipments:p . Got camera, Contra, and Viva Pinata for this latest debacle....but so far so good with 6th:( :up

My launch 360 never had a glitch. Albiet, I've only probably played it maybe 20 hours total. Until XBMC for the 360 is a reality, I doubt I'll play it much.

Although my wife may be exercising the 360 a bit if some good songs get released for guitar hero.

Well, I'm not one to tempt fate, so I would NEVER stand up & say my launch-era360 has been going strong for 16 months now. ;)

Mine died after 3 months, my only issue i had with the whole replacement process was they wanted to charge me 139 for out of warranty repair, It took a few calls and i got them down to $35, I sent it in, and 2 weeks later i got a replacement system that was NOTICEABLY Quieter, no problems since.

Now they have extended the factory warranty to 1 year, which is nice, and I got my retroactive refund for the $35 i paid for replacement.

I have 3 and use them mainly for Windows Media Center TV watching. 1 is a 14 months old and going strong and the other 2 are about 12 months and doing fine. I have gaming but dont do that much so maybe it has a lot to do how you use them.

I think it does. I know when i used mine for that purpose it was quiet. When playing a game sounded like the thing was going to take off and hover in the room.

A guy on the IGN 360 board did a survey of the winners of the Every10minutes contest. There were 56 known winners on the IGN boards. He sent this survey by PM to the winners:

Every10Minutes Winner's survey

Hello fellow winner, I am conducting a survey of Ever10minutes winners to finally get a clear, scientific representation of the failure rate of Launch Xbox 360s. Please answer these questions.

Did you receive your Xbox 360 from the every10minutes contest?

Has that Xbox 360 failed at all between then and now?

If so, have your other or replacement Xbox 360s fail too?

Of those, 27 replied, a 48% reply rate which is common for internet surveying. Of those that replied, 4 were voided. A response is voided if the person no longer has first hand experience with their Xbox 360, that is, they sold or gave away their Xbox 360.

Of the replies not voided, 12 replied that their Xbox 360 still works and 11 replied that their Xbox 360 has failed. That is a 48% failure rate among the Every10Minutes winners. Of those with failed Xbox 360's, 2 respondents had replacement Xbox 360s fail, specifically one respondent is on his 8th Xbox 360.

Credit goes to IGNoutsida for the survey.

I bought mine in April 06, it was manufactured in Feb 06. It gets played alot and has never even once locked up on me. I've not had one single problem with it.

my second 360 just died on me today I have 4 days to return it to the store in which i bought it from . I am very tempted to get my money back and then get the PS3 though I am not sure if that is the best thing to do or i can go back to either the first xbox or the ps2

what to do what to do ???

My 3rd one just died on Sunday Its been locking up a lot but it will only last a few mintues when I turn it on and it has some strange colors the gears of was is suppose to be black and red not red , white and yellow. I got the warranty from game stop . I wounder if they will let me pay the differenct for the Elite , maybe it will last longer

i have to Xbox 360, my son's and mine. The original unit died last december, it was working without any freezes, I just went on a trip to Orlando and when I returned I just turn it on, the image froze, I unplug it and plug it again just to get the 3 red lights of death. By the way the Xbox was was unlugged from rhe power outlet before I my trip. Then I bought another new just to have it exchanged 2 weeks later. I bought a UPS for my LCD and the Xbox and after that I haven't had any problems, with the new unit or the remanufactured unit that Ms sent me. The Xbox seems to be very susceptible to power surges.
