D*'s alleged "false advertising"

okay, going back to the sports teams "promise". I live in an area were two teams co exist. I only get one team on my sports network, which owns the rights to both teams. However, I cannot get the "other team" on extra innings because its "blacked out" because they want me to watch the team on the sports channel that IS NOT AVAILABLE TO ME THROUGH DIRECTV.

so in this regard, Directv says You get YOUR teams, No, I do not. Disclaimers and what not, I do not get my team. and the team that is blacked out is closer then the team that is NOT.

what I should get is both teams. and there shouldn't be a discussion about it.

Your issue is with the league, not a programming provider. They dictate blackouts, which are generally enforced by Zip Code. Sure there are mistakes and flukes now and again, but these are mostly governed by local exclusive rules (ie. Mountain West only on CSTV and was not even offered in Las Vegas for the first year, so no UNLV games viewable in LV) and the league, not D*.

Old Rat has been told this over and over again but has deciede a long time ago that this is in fact a D* problem. Do yourself a favor Old Rat and go get either the local cable company or whatever it takes to get your team. D* is following the rules given to them, how are they suppose to handle this, disregard the rules?

Could you qualify specifically what constitutes D* advertising? Is this just DirecTV's own TV advertising, or does in include print advertising? Are press releases within the scope of this discussion. How about transcripts of conferences and conference calls?

If you narrow the scope enough, you can come up with an ad campaign where DirecTV claims to have a picture that is preferred 4:1 over cable. Of course to do that, you have to be discussing SD PQ among professional home theater installers...
 
I haven't seen any blatant "false adversing" from D*. They're pretty careful to put in the disclaimers like "up to 150", "soon", and "agreements in principle". E* and cable do the same thing. You have to pay attention to what is really being said in all advertising.

The problem is that most people can't use common sense because they don't have any. This is one thing that is lacking in today's society.

Yea, but it keeps the lawyers and the people that make all those warning lables (like don't operate your hair dryer in the bath tub) employeed.
 
The only ads I have issue with is the full 1080i ones and I believe they pulled them pretty quickly.

Othewise we'll see what happens at the end of the year. I for one couldn't give two sheets less about which company I'm with. I'm with E right now because they have the best HD right NOW. I don't give a sh*t about promissed HD. If Direct pulls ahead of the pack this fall then I'll switch to them. I'm loyal to the company with the best services / products.

Most people on both sides act like their dicks shrink 4 inches if something is better on the other side, or if someone brings up a point they might not like. Get over it.
 
And advertisers count on that.

As ALL of them have done for HUNDREDS of years - next time you get a chance read through a magazine or newspaper from 100 years ago - take a look at the claims made for 'tonics', cigarettes, and the like.

Also, if you can find a DVD or tape of television commercials from the 50's - these are the days before disclaimers - it's amazing what was told about various products, even foods, etc.

This stuff is NOTHING NEW.

And for sure she NEVER SAID FULL 1080i But as always, people make false accusations to bolster their points.

As usual, people should actually listen to the whole commercial, maybe record it, so they can them hear what is actually being said, instead of What they WANT to hear.

Correct, and those 1080i ads are still running. I saw two yesterday alone. In fact I have seen most of the ads that people said were to "be pulled" still airing within the last week.
 
OK, I may be wrong with this but D* is sending out full 1080i vertical resolution, it's the horizontal that they're cutting back on from 1920 to like 1200 somthing.
