Got 2nd HR20 (HR20-100)

Functionally, I cant find a single thing different between the -100 and the -700 other then the -100 is not on the new CE White GUI. The -100 does have a coax digital audio out along with a Toslink Optical. The -700 is more silver while the -100 is more pewter color similar to the HR10-250. So far I cant say one over the other but I do like the -100.

One other difference may be that the -700 will get CE releases earlier versus the -100. That may sway me towards having at least one -700 in the house.

Do these machines output to all connections at the same time? Also does it have a RF output?

No RF but all outputs at same time. Component, S-Video, 2 composite, HMDI. So you can have 1080i output at same time on component and HDMI while 480i on S-Video and composite. Its nice feature. Wish the HR10-250 would do that. You cant even do component and HDMI at same time unless you hack it.

Ok I found something. I get great UHF signals on every receiver I own due to a very high and large double Yagi antenna. I, however, dont get VHF signals very well. I have an opposite VHF only antenna at the other side of my house pointing in a different direction to get those. Thats the background.

The HR20-700 gets about 5-10% better signal strength on UHF channels and, get this, 40-50% on VHF. Now I dont know if its because of the new CE software release but 2 high band VHF channels (10 and 12) show up at 50-60% strength on the HR20-700 and 30-45% on the HR20-100. There appears to be some breakup on the HR20-100.

So this analysis is not completely scientific but I feel more comfortable with the HR20-700 to handle my OTA channels. I used the exact same line and feed, no extra splitting. So if anyone is on the fence and really needs VHF OTA, the HR20-700 appears to be better. I will revisit when the HR20-100 gets the next CE release.

must wait until friday to get my new hr20. imagine this, the installer calls me this morning but my caller id shows a texas area code. i screen my calls so i didn't answer. i get a similar call on my cell phone with the same area code and i don't answer. then i think, maybe, its directv. so after several phone calls, i could have had this done this afternoon but i resked for friday morning!

That will teach you to screen your phone calls. :D

I got my 100 yesterday, all is good, slight differnt ,front panel like mentioned previously is slightly different color and the blue lights tend to work different.
Internally as far as funtioning I have found very little difference.

Over all, I think I like the -700 better, but the -100 is still new.
I asked for a -100 because at the time I thougth the -100's were black, since then I have found otherwise, had I known that when I ordered I would have asked for another -700.

Iceturkee,
When D* called me, it too was Unavailable or something like that, not private or blocked, but it did NOT say D* on it, so I too missed the 1st call, but did get the next few.

well, i have it currently in the living room but dumdum here didn't think the two together would creat havoc. evidently, and this is really strange, if both dvr's are on the input on the television acts up as it doesn't know whether to be in digital 1 or digital 2.

i called directv and they are sending someone monday morning to move it to the bedroom and move the tivo back to the living room. this means i won't have a home for my h20 which may very well go back to directv. it was a freebie anyhow so no financial loss!

the guy did tell me it's an hr20-100. they look basically the same but there is a tad difference (at least, on the front panel design).

Very slight,
I think the color is slightly different.
Physically they are pretty close, maybe exact, I haven't checked yet.
I have found that the -100 seems to run a bit cooler at least on the internal temp guage, mines been running about 107-109* where as my -700 in that same location was running between 116 and 129*

yeah, i noticed, except for the additional digital audio out that's marked something else.

anyhow, i believe i solved why the tv was going nuts with both the dvr's on. i accidently had hit split screen. yeah, i know and i graduated from college too!

Easy, you'll get over it, just blame it on the BIG buttons your not use to yet !!!
Don't be so harsh on yourself !

well, jimbo, my problem wasn't resolved after all. just got off the phone with directv and there coming tuesday morning to either play switch the dvr's or figure out another way to resolve. good thing for protection plan!

Are the remotes catching the others signal when your trying to input a channel ?
Sounds like they need to definatly be seperated (RF signal wise) . hopefully they will get it resolved for you, let us know what happens ...

jimbo, that's what's happening.......although, i'm changing the input on the television (one dvr is digital 1 and the other is digital 2).

it was fine friday night....was taping two games on one and was able to tape a third game on the second. think that's because i began taping the marlins game once it started (they had about an hour rain delay).

but i can't program shows in advance and not get the duplication. weird, i know!

When you tried reprogramming the remotes so they would not see the others signal while programming, Did you tape off the eye (IR) oh wait you said RF, try disconnecting the RF antenna, if you have the external and reprogram the remote, if it's possible ... this is really an interesting situation, because normally you could block the signal while reprogramming, but if you have the INTERNAL RF I'm not sure how you would do it.

Keep us informed ...

When setting up the remotes in RF mode, each remote/STB pair has it's own code that's based on the RID of the STB so you don't need to worry about one remote controlling two STB's.

Rad,
Thats kinda how I thought it was suppose to work, but it apears Iceturkee has possibly one with the same code, or something else happening ...
Any suggestions for her.

jimbo, i don't have the rf antenna hooked up....i don't think i have that remote.

yes, i tried the tape......granted, it was scotch tape......didn't work. maybe, duct or electrical would be heavy enough to block the eye?

and must i remind you, i'm of the female persuasion?
