i recently got direct tv i have a few questions. my house sits in the middle of 700 acres of woods and neverless my signal is not good i cant pick up all the satilites which i beleive there is 3. i get the 101 satilite allright, and i want to get hd, do i need to get all 3 satilites to get hd because everytime i call direct tv i get a different answer. to get a better signal they say i need a better line of sight with 700 acres of trees thats a little hard. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Reception of 5 satellites is required for D*'s current HD and the new channels they will be adding. The sats are on both sides of the 101. They extend from 99 degrees to 119.

If you can't get line-of-sight with a roof or pole mount, you may be out of luck.

The new sats carrying hd are on each side of the 101 sat. The hd channels on the other sats at 110 and 119 will likely be moved to these sats. If you can get the 101 sat, then you are probably okay for the other two at 99 and 103.

But I don't think you will be able to find an installer that will be willing to do this if they can't get line of sight to ALL sats. The reason is simple. If the customer initially agrees to a limited LOS and the installer puts the system in, the customer can call back in later and complain that they are not receiving all of their programming. The installer then has to come back out for no money and fix it.

Can you get to a clearing within 250 ft ?
You can run the 5 lnb set up up to at least that long of a run, maybe that will help in your situation, I know I ended up doing that with a friend, everythign works fine.

Perhaps you are correct, but if you sign off on the install not seeing all of the sats, then you may be sol when you complain about it.
