Watch out the NAB is working against us.

The NAB has a storied history opposing FM radio, UHF TV, cable TV, VCRs, DVDs, satellite TV, satellite radio, and on and on. The scary thing is, although it obviously ends up losing, it almost always can drag things out for years. Money (and guaranteed access on TV for local pols) can work wonders.

Espnu or All American Direct distants in HD

In the winter, you are correct. But during Daylight Savings Time, Arizona (which stays on Mountain Standard in the summer) effectively joins the Pacific Time Zone.

    MLB SuperFan this year?

Last year DirecTV also spoke of a minimum of 40 HD games a week, but often delivered as many as 80 -- many of those with feeds from both of the teams. By my very unofficial count last year well over 75% of the games available on MLBEI via DirecTV were presented in HD.

    EI on D*

At least two Padres games in HD from 4SD have been shown so far this season, and CSN Philly had some HD last year with more coming this year. Those were the first every SD4 games in the EI package -- and it was an event Cox executives as late as last year were saying would never happen under...

DIRECTV Up To Bat with Fully-Loaded MLB EXTRA INNINGS(R) SuperFan(R) Service

In keeping with the spirit here, let's all bitch about those lying DirecTV ads saying you will get "up to 40" HD games a week. Don't they realize they are providing HD coverage of close to 60 games in each of the first two weeks?!!! Do they take us for morons?!!! Make them stop those...

MLB Update: Atlanta Braves TV for DirecTV 2008

As part of last year's deal (for seven seasons, I believe) those who didn't agree before last season were frozen out for the lifetime of the agreement. It would take the approval of MLB, DirecTV, Comcast and Time Warner for Dish to get access to MLB EI.

Is D* dealing with Comcast Philly or......

It was part of the MLB:EI deal with Comcast/Cox and Time Warner. San Diego's RSN was also part of the deal. I am not sure either one has been on in HD yet, though.

INDEMAND will carry MLB EI? No so fast says MLB... How about E*?

The reason is called the ABC O&Os. If cable/satellite/telco want to show Lost and Grey's and Desperate Housewives in HD, they gotta pony up $2.96 per month for every subscriber for ESPN. (And then there is ESPN2, and ESPN News, etc). Most weeks (outside of football season) ESPN isn't even in...

    Dish Network Statement on MLB

He is apparently referring to 2009, when repirtedly MLB will be charging 30 cents pre sub for The Baseball Channel. Her are what some other cable channels are now receiving from provbiders per subscriber per month: ESPN $2.96 Disney Channel $1 (commercial free) TNT $ 0.89 Fox News Channel...

    Dish Network Statement on MLB

Of course MLB will do something like that. Or just pull a 7 PM ET and a 10 PM ET game off the MLB EI package and provide only via the Baseball Channel. The folks at DirecTV and iNDemand won't squawk -- they have a big piece of TBC pie. And then MLB can advertise 12 exclusive HD games a...

    Dish Network Statement on MLB

Excellent point, Scott. And such whining is not going to help Charlie as he fights in Washington to keep John Malone from getting control of DirecTV. Who thought up this childish game plan, the genuises from Mediacom? Just say the price is too high, we've got more HD than anybody, and...

My HOA is fining me $100 / day b/c of my DISH! HELP!!!

Except, of course, by requiring you to sign such an illegal agreement, the HOA is at fault to start with. It is similar to those parking garages that state on their tickets they are not responsible for any damage to your car, and by accepting the ticket you accept those conditions. Wrong. By...

IN Demand Reaches MLB EI Agreement

Exactly. And why should MLB, DirecTV and/or iNDemand agree to cut the value of their own holdings by giving Dish a similar deal?

IN Demand Reaches MLB EI Agreement

According the AP "...Baseball is willing to resume negotiate with Echostar's Dish Network, baseball spokesman Rich Levin said, but DirecTV president Chase Carey said he anticipated for now that his company would be an exclusive satellite carrier...." And as part of the deal, the AP reports...

IN Demand Reaches MLB EI Agreement

That is the Dish party line. But why should Echo Star get the same deal? Last year it provided 55,000 MLB EI subscribers. DirecTV provided 270,000, and the cable providers added 230,000. So why should MLB give Dish the same deal it is giving DirecTV -- or cable for that matter? If...

    Any word on the street

Correct, Senato. If Dish lost 10% of its MLB-EI subs of last year, it would lose in the neighborhood of 5,000 subs. But then next year, when virtually all the MLB-EI games will be delivered in HD, and DirecTV has a full off-season to promoite the HD package, things might be substantially...

INDEMAND will carry MLB EI? No so fast says MLB... How about E*?

Well, DirecTV would have to spend a lot less $$ for the package. And even if its share of the Baseball Channel got diluted to 10%, if both cable and Dish were to bring 15 million viewers to the channel that would mean it would be worth three times as much. Therefore DirecTV's 10% share...

Commissioner Defends DirecTV MLB EI Deal

Actually, his contract expires in 2009. And why does MLB need a change -- at least from the viewpoint of its 30 owners? Last year saw the highest MLB attendance ever. Last year saw the biggest total revenue ever. Its mlb.com is the envy of the sports industry, showing every game, and...
