Confusion on where the focal point is.. Help a girl out..

Ok I have read countless postings over the years on where the focal point should be in relation to the feed horn. Now I have a BUD.. Im confused on just where I should set the scalar/LNB. I have seen that the focal point should be about 1/4 inch inside the throat. I have also found that it...

Looking for newest Viewsat Extreme factory firmware..

Hi all. Tim got ahold of a Viewsat Extreme for me for free. Looking to get rid of the "questionable" firmware on this thing. I've looked around but I can't seem to find it. Any sites that have this firmware are not sites I want to join. Can anyone help me out. The original firmware would be fine...

Finally got setup, SG2100 was a pain.

Well it took us 3 days but the 39" dish and SG2100 are working and following the arc. Tim spent almost 3days trying to get the dish to follow the arc and never could quite get it to work correctly. Where we have the pole, next to the fence, you cant get behind it so he worked from the side...

My order finally came in, now to get started

Well he helped abit. He got a dish, tried for Galaxy10, gave up and put in on AMC4 and left it in his computer. I watched the only good channel on it KUIL and figured out how to reaim the dish myself.. with some help from him from time to time. I think he wanted to play with satellites more but...

My order finally came in, now to get started

Wow you guys are fast around here. Truth be told, Tim is knowledgeable about satellites and such as he is into ham radio, and at one time did loads of satellite installs here, even one for guy who wanted Galaxy10. He wasn't interested in this till I started playing around with a Twinhan card...

My order finally came in, now to get started

Hi all. My order for a Coolsat 5000, Digiwave SG2100, Digiwave 39" dish and Digiwave .3 LNB arrived yesterday. I only found one place in Canada that had good prices, shipping and would take my Mastercard. And all this was shipped for $60 @ 2000 miles :) Anyways Tim found a spot in the yard...

Chaparral Micropak LNB Quest for hardware.

In my quest for hardware a friend gave me an old primefocus dish and a LNB. The LNB is an Adjustible Chaparral Micropak. I hope the picture attached. Doesn't this require a scaler ring? From what little I have found it simply attaches to the dish and away you go. I was thinking, seeing that...

    How dynamic are transponders

I was figuring as much. My other half is a "Ham" :) So any one transponder can be HV or RL depending on what ever they want. So if they phase the antennas they can have all four at anytime on a giving transponder.. I think this is what happens. I know Tim plays with 2meter/440 yagis and can...

    How dynamic are transponders

I was wondering how dynamic are the transponders on satellites. What I mean is I have DVBDream looking for channels on G11 and I have noticed it searching for transponders like.. 12005 V 3979, 12005 H 3979. Can any given transponder be set to any frequency range (Ka or Ku) and polarity? I...

    Coolsat 6000.. Should I?

Hey. As interesting as my twinhan is, I really would like to watch FTA on my TV. After reading Icebergs review on the Cooolsat 5000 I starting to think.. searching for signals would be fun too. I came across a site up here that is selling the Coolsat 6000 and was wondering if it was as good...

Welcome New Members! (Please Say HI here!)

Hey guys. Amy here. Got hooked on FTA when I came across a Twinhan 1020 in a junked computer that my boyfriend purchased at one of his "Hamfests" last year. I'm into computers and LOADS of TV and Tim is into.. well you guessed it, Ham radio. So I guess this hobby and radio kinda go together. :)

What is the Best PC based satellite receiver?

Twinhan (1020a) has my vote. Works very well here even though all I have is a S-choice crappy .75db noise LNB. HD worked well but thats all the comps job really. I really have to get the boyfriend to get off his butt and buy me a better one.
