Hopper OTA adapter price drop to $30

I called Dish yesterday because of an issue with an incomplete recording. Long story short, I asked the technical support rep if I could get an OTA adapter as a backup for my local channels. He told me they had them in stock, and they were now $30. Because I was a valued Dish customer, and...

    PTAT recording funkyness

I got my new Hopper system installed two weeks ago, and have enjoyed it so far. A couple of days ago I turned on PTAT so that I could use the auto hop feature and have had some issues with recordings. Last night I was watching a show that recorded on PTAT at 9pm, and 28 minutes in to it it...

Dish iPhone app as remote control for Hopper/Joey?

I am considering upgrading to a Hopper system, and one of my considerations is how the iPhone app works with it. Can the iPhone app work like a remote with the Hopper? Can it also control a Joey? I currently use a video card in my PC to stream TV to my computer at work since they block the...

Tivo conversion from monthly plan to lifetime possible?

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this question, but I am considering switching back to cable and looking at the new Tivo model. I have never had a Tivo before and am not sure if my family is going to like it. I like the idea paying for lifetime service up front to eliminate the...

Welcome Pack + HBO for least expensive legal HBO GO

I was looking over Dish's basic programming packs awhile back when an idea occurred to me. There are a significant number of people who are only interested in getting HBO GO to supplement Netflix and HULU subscriptions. If you buy a receiver and subscribe to the Welcome Pack for $14.99/mo...

622 TV1 composite output image misaligned

I have recently started using the RF modulator on my 622 to watch the output from both TV1 and TV2 through a tuner card in my PC. When watching TV1 on both RF and composite outputs, I have noticed that the image is not quite centered, with a fairly obvious black bar on the left side of the...

Where to get new smart card?

I have a model 301 receiver that I had used on my account a few years ago before the last smart card swap. Until now I hadn't had a use for it, but now I would like to reactivate it. I called Dish and was told that a new smart card would cost me $59.95, but that I could possibly get one for...

Best way to clean Blu-ray player?

My player is in a spot where it collects a fair bit of dust. So far it hasn't been too big of a problem, but I know I will need to clean it out soon. Has anyone else had to deal with this yet? The instruction manual says do not use a cleaning disc that was designed for CD and DVD. Maxell now...

A couple of problems on new 612

I just got a new 612 for the master bedroom and it already has a couple of problems. When the installer came last week, the first 612 he hooked up was DOA, which kind of worried me. Fortunately he had another one with him so he hooked that one up and it seemed to work OK. After a little while...

EHDs with 8MB cache working ok?

Is anyone using an EHD with an 8mb cache? They seem to be a lot cheaper, especially this one here: Amazon.com: Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34270: Electronics ...but are they OK for DVR use?

    Trouble with KTLA?

Has anyone in the LA area had trouble picking up KTLA in the last day or so? For some reason my 622 will not pick it up right now, even though all the other OTA channels are just fine. The built in tuner on my Sony XBR4 picks it up just fine, but the 622 gives me a no signal error. Maybe the...

Redbox quietly begins testing Blu-ray rentals

This news is a little on the old side, but I thought it was interesting. It has been hinted in various articles found on the internet that Redbox was going to start testing Blu-ray rentals. Here are a couple of reports that Blu-ray titles have been spotted in the wild inside a Redbox: Redbox...

    Timeframe for Dish programmable remote?

Back around team summit time it was mentioned that Dish would be coming out with a new two way programmable remote. Any word on when it might be coming out? I have been looking around for a good, reasonably priced programmable remote. I currently use the Universal R7 but the buttons start...

Potential Verizon workers strike - FiOS work stopping in your area?

Verizon and its legion of subcontractors seem to have vanished from the streets of Moreno Valley, just as they were about to start work on my street. They put out the flyers back in May that they would be working on my street sometime in the next three months. They completed laying the conduit...

What is the real cost for FiOS TV?

FiOS will be coming to my neighborhood "soon", and I am thinking about dumping Dish when they get here. I have looked over the FiOS website and want to be sure that I understand the "real world" cost of installation, equipment, and programming. I currently have a Dish 622 that feeds the main...

    Rental availability for Blu-ray titles

Yesterday (7/29) was the release date for Stargate: Continuum. I had kind of been looking forward to seeing it, and they had been heavily promoting the fact that it was available on DVD and Blu-ray. I know MGM released it on both formats - I saw them at my local Target. Since I only wanted to...

Blockbuster Online - anyone have it?

Does anyone here have the Blockbuster Online deal? I was looking it over and it seems to be a pretty good deal. We don't rent a lot of movies, so the low end $3.99 deal seems to be a good value, especially if it includes BD titles for the price. The way I read it, for $3.99/mo you get 1...

Firmware update for the Sharp BD-HP20U specifically for "Jumper"

Is there a standard abbreviation for Blu-Ray? Should there be?

In various posts here I have used the abbreviations BDR, BD, and spelled out Blu-Ray and bluray. Now that Blu-Ray is the standard for HD physical media, maybe we should have a standard abbreviation. My vote is for BD, short for Blu-Ray disc. Any other suggestions?

    Is Eureka coming back?

    Dish DVR Advantage rant!

I realize this has been discussed before, but please, everyone who THINKS they have Dish DVR Advantage, please check your bill. I thought I had signed up for it in July 2007, then I read a thread here written by someone who noticed they were still being charged the DVR fee while on DVR...

Any portable HD format players coming?

The biggest thing currently holding me back from jumping in for either camp is the lack of a portable player. I do not want to buy multiple copies of the same movie (standard DVD and HD format) so that the kids can have a copy to watch on the portable player in the car. I realize that there...
