Dish and the AZ monsoon season Question

I live in northwest AZ and I don't have many issues at all. I think I had one outage the entire time we had those huge storms roll through in January. Note I have a very clear LOS, as well. 110/119/129

Anyone tried using a late-model Acer AspireRevo as a media center computer?

I think it would be fine for streaming 1080p. And yeah, it doesn't look like it has the room for any sot of cards, except maybe mini-pci. Hard to tell without owning one, though.

Not as of yet, but I believe that is coming very soon.

sprint.com says pre release is june 6

Got mine today. We don't have a sprint corp store, only 3rd party retai; and they only had four phones. I was #2 in line this morning and lets just say there was a lot of angry complaining when they ran out. The phone rocks and I love it. Fast, stable, smooth and beautiful.

    Recommendations-Live Drive Imaging Software

If you can afford it, I would go with Acronis True Image. It does absolutely everything you want, and more.

sprint.com says pre release is june 6

I've never had SERO. It looked nice but I just never got it. I am, however, going to get a pre tomorrow. I can't wait! :-)

sprint.com says pre release is june 6

According to this post, the Pre will run $549 off-contract. I'd want to try out the pre first before I plunk down $550 for it, but it looks nice! Also: Who the f*@#$@ uses mail in rebates anymore? Those things are worthless. :D

    ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE

I second that recommendation. I have ESET at home, and we use AVG at work. Not impressed with AVG in the slightest. NOD32 has never failed me! :D

    Install of 722 Sunday Question

No, for purposes of an install an HDTV is not required as all of the 722's outputs are active at the same time. The 722 will down-convert the HD channels over non-HD outputs (S-Video/Composite, unsure about component as I do not yet own a 722).

My cat lays on top of my Dish receiver

WD40 keeps cats away from anything... it has fish oil in it and cats hate fish oils. Try giving your cat some tuna that came packed in a can of oil.. they will not go near it.

Help getting new TV in future

I have that exact TV. I purchased it last month and I am VERY pleased. I got mine off of TigerDirect (w/ stand) for $989+shipping (they had an excellent sale going on). Excellent PQ and enough inputs for me to do what I need with (my HDMI is handled by my receiver, however).

Pics of the system after adding the Sub-12 and Denon AVR-1909

Those rears look nice. I also have the rental-home problem but I think my living room is a bit larger. How did you mount those up? I have some JBL Stadium 6" bookshelves that I'd like to mount but they have no brackets on the back.

    IE 7 Policy/Security

There is a way to do it via group policy. It's a computer setting, I believe. We used to do it at my pervious place of employment. The setting is called "Prevent access to drives from My Computer."

    problems with XP SP3

I initially had problems with a few machines, but AFAIK only because we loaded an image created on a machine with an Intel processor. The processors we use in our machines are Athlon 64 5200+.

    problems with XP SP3

I have XP SP3 installed both at home, and I have deployed it to our machines at work (about 400), with no problems; except for the aforementioned processor incompatibility. We used to have an Intel-based environment, but we are switching to AMD processors because of the lower cost, and I have...

FS: Sprint Mogul 6800 PDA Phone

    Scott, you've got a PM.

Got a Sprint Mogul (6800) for only $288.99

I am pretty sure you can get TEP. It is only $7/mo. Wait a few days after you sign up and file a claim on your phone for damage. They should send you a brand new one, but you'll have to send the old one back.

    Backing up USB drive?

Agreed. :D Also, you may want to try TrueImage from Acronis. It should be able to back up the raw partition to an image file as well.

    New Pioneer VSX-10171XV-K

Well, after some careful thought, I contacted JR and exchanged my Pioneer for an Onkyo SR605 and paid the difference. Not really too much, after all. I think that I'll be a lot happier with this receiver in the short/long term; and it will go better with my JBL speakers. Thanks for the feedback!

    New Pioneer VSX-10171XV-K

Thanks! Yeah I didn't read the model # quite right :) Thanks for the correction. Yes this is HDMI pass-through, but I don't currently have any HD sources so that doesn't bother me so much right now. The receiver will convert composite and S-Video sources to component (but not component to HDMI...

    New Pioneer VSX-10171XV-K

I just purchased a new Pioneer VSX-10171XKK receiver, two floor-standing JBL Arena Series fronts, four Arena Series Monitors and a JBL Sub12 500w sub from JR. I am upgrading my system from an integrated Logitech Z-680 speaker system that will now move into my bedroom or office, so hopefully I...

    Suggestions for OS

LER, I agree with you on these points. I have admined both Linux and BSD boxes (OpenBSD/FreeBSD/NetBSD) and find that I like FreeBSD quite a bit more than either Linux or the other BSD variants. I have a lot of issues with user control panels, CPanel in particular. I know from experience that...
