    Retailers serving US-based hobbyists?

I didn't see anything in the rules to suggest this is verboten, but please educate me if I'm wrong. I've been out of the hobby for quite a long time, and trying to get started back up again, the retail landscape doesn't seem anything at all like how I remember it. Where is everyone buying from...

FREE - Technotrend 3200 PC card

Technotrend TT-Budget S2-3200 tuner card. This is a conventional PCI card--desktop PC required. It will tune DVB-S2 as well as DVB-S signals but it does not have support for hardware blind scan. It was working when removed from service but I have no way to test it now. You get what you pay...

DSR-922, suggestions for cleaing VCRS battery leakage?

I picked up a DSR-922 on Craigslist today. I plugged it in at the guy's house and it didn't do anything, so he told me to just take it, no charge. It turned out to have a leaky battery in the VCRS that got down on the main board. It has actually started up once and ran for about a minute...

    Troubleshooting help - HITS

My wife and I have been enjoying the DSR-410 I bought this summer, but I've run into problems and I'm curious if anyone has any troubleshooting ideas. I think it isn't looking very good for the receiver, but it's at least worth asking. My system has been in good working order for several...

    Counts per degree?

Is there any expected range for the number of counts per degree on your actuator? My setup is a Sadoun 6' dish/polar mount with a Venture Maxi, and I'm getting about 5 counts per degree, or about 10 counts center-to-center between satellites. This is proving to be a little bit tricky for...

I wonder how often "C-Band" checks his e-mail?

I was just poking around the Halogen TV website. They have a "channel locator" to find their channel on various providers. If your chosen provider doesn't have the channel, it takes you to a web form to request it. To be fair, the text is obviously boilerplate with just the provider name...

    H2H DSR-410 Setup Questions

I have acquired a clean and healthy (as far as I can tell) DSR-410 which I intend to sub to SRL. I played around with it a little bit last night but I ran out of time to get it all the way working (my dish isn't peaked yet anyway.) I have a couple of questions about initial tuning/lock that I...

    WTB: 4DTV remote control

The UPS man will be dropping off a DSR-410 at my house next week. Said receiver does not come with remote control, and I got a bit of sticker shock when I saw how much Skyvision wants for a new one. If anybody has one sitting around and would like to make a buck, please let me know.

Is there any analog on Ku?

Probably not but figured it was worth asking. Summit Source has the NextWave receivers for cheaper than the going price on a VBox, and it has a polarizer controller as a bonus. Gonna fire it up tonight and make sure it works. Hope it does, because my two-year-old demolished the packing material.

    Equipment vendor rant

Vendor A: I sent an e-mail inquiry on Sunday. It's now Thursday. No response. Vendor B: I placed an online order on Tuesday. Credit card was billed immediately. It's now Thursday. Item not shipped, no communication beyond the auto-generated e-mail at the time the order went in. Neither...

    GEOSATpro Question about "high-end" features

I got my MicroHD about a month or so ago, and it's been rock solid so far. Except for a couple of nits regarding the user interface, I've been very happy with it. I was wondering if Brian or any of the SatelliteGuys power users could clarify a point about "high-end" features. Case in point...

    Channel master / PrimeStar dish

Another poster made reference a couple of days ago to this, which is advertised as a Channel Master and which the poster said is equivalent/comparable to a PrimeStar dish. What are the odds that this would outperform the GeoSatPro 90 cm? I've got the GeoSatPro, and I've usually been very...

    Polar mount/actuator - arc question

I've read quite a few threads and websites talking about polar mounts, and I'm confused on a key point... is a dish on a polar mount with a linear actuator able to point to satellites on both sides of true south, or not? Or does it depend on the dish you're using? Is it dependent on the length...

    Yet another mini-BUD experiment

As I have this week off from work, I figured this would be a good time to try something a little bit off-the-wall. I ordered a BSC621 LNBF (not the -2 version) and the conical scalar ring attachment. The LNBF came today, while the scalar ring will be coming tomorrow. I'm hoping to get to...

    LNBF deteriorating?

Equipment: GeoSatPro 90 cm dish Invacom SNH-031 LNBF Fortec Star Mercury II Receiver My Invacom is soon going to be four years old, which doesn't seem that old, however.... I've been having an increasing level of difficulty locking weak signals and progressively less SQ on full-time...

    Elecard - Accessing Deinterlace Settings

After a couple of years of TSReader + VLC, I'm branching out and trying to see if there's anything I like better. I have both ProgDVB and an evaluation copy of DVBDream installed, and I'm using the latest Elecard codec. However, I can't figure out how to manipulate Elecard's deinterlace...

    Interesting dilemma... programming survey

The Patient Channel on AMC 3 has been running ads lately for a contest they are using to get feedback on their programming. You are supposed to watch at least one hour of programming and then call their toll-free number to be surveyed about their programming and be entered in a contest drawing...

    Trinity Labs mux on G17?

Can anybody do a quick signal strength check on G17 for me? I'm getting all the HughesNet tps really strong and some wildfeeds as well, but I'm getting nothing on the Trinity Labs mux (12060 V 26700).

F/d mismatch between Geosatpro dish and Invacom lnbf

I'm looking at upgrading to a 90 cm dish and I've pretty much settled on the Geosatpro. However, I noticed that the f/d of this dish is 0.5, while the ideal f/d for the common Invacom LNBFs is 0.6 for the SNH-031 (which I own) and 0.65 for the QPH-031 (which I might want to upgrade to someday.)...

    G26 signal strengths

A while back, I posted a thread on Sadoun's forum talking about the difficulties I've had lately, mainly on G26. CBS Newspath was the strongest signal up there at the time I got into FTA about a year ago, and now I am struggling to get a signal that is even usable. Meantime, the opposite has...

    Scored a Direcway dish

After banging my Fortec Star 80 cm against the ground one too many times, it's gotten to the point that it's not good for much anymore. I never was totally happy with the size and I was contemplating buying a larger dish, when opportunity knocked :D My parents had been Direcway/HughesNet...

    FSN North and Wisconsin Swapped

Anybody else notice this? It was just about to the end of the second period in the MN/ND hockey game and the feed on FSN North switched to Best Damn Sports Show and then switched to FSN Wisconsin. I tried changing channels and even rebooting the receiver. What the heck is going on here...

Access card linked to its receiver?

My question in short: Is an access card tied at the hip to its receiver at the time of activation, or can it be moved between receivers? The back story... It took me two tries to get DirecTV installed. On the first try, a national contractor got about halfway through the install and then...

    "In" with the installer

Not sure whether this belongs here or in the Installer forum, but I'll give this a shot. D* installer is coming out on Thursday morning for a three-receiver installation. In the interest of both time and getting things the way I want them, I've got most of the interior set up with both phone...
