I have a PS3 that I use exclusively for playing Blu-rays. No games. I've been considering getting a game, just to see what they're like.
I've never been a big gamer. Sure, I had the Atari 2600, played Pac Man and had a few PC games. Strategy type games with great graphics. Or "Railroad Tycoon." Haven't played one in years. And I certainly won't have a lot of time to put into it, so it must be simple for occasional use. I've read a little about "The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific" - what do you folks think of it? And Civ Rev?
I know nothing of what is available for the PS3, just seen a couple of ads. I would not want anything that requires fast reflexes. It would probably need a noob level, so I don't get shot out of the game in ten seconds (assuming FPS). No sports, no kiddie cutesy. I don't even know what the buttons on the controller do, so there would have to be some sort of tutorial on it.
Any game that might also interest my wife, where we would take turns playing? Or must I bite the bullet and buy a second controller? Did they ever come out with that "rumble" controller? Or give up getting something that might also interest her?
Do they even make any "entry level" kind of games, or do they assume everyone learns from someone else, and at a tender age?
Would you recommend I try a game? And if so, which one?
Maybe I should just go build a shuffleboard, for future use?

I am a 61 year old gamer. Drake's Fortune is GREAT! The graphics are fantastic, and it is part shooter, part puzzle solving. And yes, you can find walkthroughs on the web that you can download, or copy/paste, for free to give you a hint of what to do next when you hit that stumped part. Just Google the name of the game followed by Walkthrough to find them.
Motorstorm has some neat graphics, but is hard and requires faster reflexes. My 10 year old grandson goes through it like crazy .. it's all I can do to stay on course ... or even figure out where the damn course is
I also fell in love with Assassin's Creed. The storyline is great, and the game much more realistic than most. It follows history to some degree. Your weapons are your fists, a longblade, a shortblade, and throwing knives. That is a really nice touch ... no magic involved, no heavy duty dream machine guns in the middle ages. The scenery is also fantastic. You walk around 3 ancient cities. Jerusalem in the game looks exactly like photos taken of old Jerusalem you'll find on the web.
I was surprised by Grand Theft Auto 4. The graphics are not the best, but the game itself is actually fun playing. I was a bit leary about it at first, but after renting it, had to keep going. It's neat that it is a wide open game. You do have tasks to complete, but can spend time just wandering around doing your own thing ... playing 8 Ball, taking your cousin or your girlfriend bowling or shooting darts.
One big suggestion, other than downloading demos, which is a great way of trying games out on a limited but free basis ... RENT. Blockbuster Video, Hollywood Video ... you can rent a game for a few dollars for a few days and really see what the full version is like ... too tough, or fun and not that bad for your level of reflexes and style. There are also a couple of online rental clubs, like Gamefly.com, where for less than $20/month you can continually try different games.

but have played Tombraider type games on the computer for years.
We recently bought a PS3 and Ghost Recon II (I think). I couldn't begin to keep up with my kids in Ghost, so I downloaded "Drake: Uncharted" too.
The first couple times I couldn't figure out anything. Then I turned Hints on and it told me to shoot the padlock on the gate and kick it open which opened up a new area.
From there just figure out how to climb low rocks and walk across logs and you're in business.
Don't be afraid to put the game on "easy" when you're starting out, learn how to hide behind things for cover and this game really starts to be a lot of fun. I know on the east setting, you can retreat (hate to admit that
) and you'll "heal" back to fighting strength.
The demo goes on for quite a ways and you get to use different weapons & grenades. Really - stick with it and I think you'll eventually enjoy it. I'm definitely going to check EBay for the full version. BTW, I've made it to Juarez in Ghost Recon

Forget the skeleton thing, afaik it has no purpose in the game. Let me think (my head's into Ghost Recon now)
.......Ok, I can't remember which direction it is but once you go through the gate, I think if you look around you'll find a clip of ammo and then you head upstream and eventually you can climb up on successive, low rock tiers to a small plateau that has a log across to another area. As you approach the log, a bird will fly across.Now as you cross the log, you have to literally tip the controllers back and fourth to maintain balance on the log. If you slide off (you will
), you'll hang there and can climb back up by pressing the "X" button.Very soon after you cross the log you'll come under enemy fire and this is where the action starts. I don't want to give away too much, so let me know if you need more help.
What's good about this game (the demo anyway) is the battles get progressively tougher but there's breathing room in between them and if you die (you will

Hello everyone, new guy here. I'm trying to solve problem I'm having with Dish bonus view channels. When I'm watching the bonus view channels then I switch back to regular dish channels, after few minutes the screen flips to black and after 30 seconds flips back to regular channels and continues to flip back and forth until I turn off TV. After I wait 30 minutes and turn back on , I can use regular channels again. So, its after I switch from bonus view channels to regular dish channels the problem starts. Been trying to fix this for a month, but no luck
Here what I've done.
i contacted Dish support and they sent me a new Joey3, but no help. Switched to a different HDMI input on TV, no help. Used different HDMI cable , no help. Used different electrical wall plug, no help.
Finally got a Dish tech to check it. He ran all systems check and was OK. Finally he brought in a small TV and plugged in the HDMI out from the Joey to the small TV. He could not get the problem to occur on his small TV, so the new Joey was working OK. So, then the problem must be myTV. He made some phone calls and came back with the answer that there must be a problem with the analog to digital switch in my TV. Has anyone ever heard of a problem like this, or is it time to be looking for a new TV? My tv LG OLED65C8PUA. TV has been trouble free til now. Thanks

Did anyone have a price increase today on their equipment? I own my VIP211k's, and they have been $5.00. My bill that I received last week shows the "add-ons" as being $5.00. However, I just logged into my Dish account, and my "add-ons" are now $10.00. Did the additional receivers go up by $5.00 recently?
As I mentioned, my last bill shows $5.00 and under the notes, nothing is mentioned about a price increase.

However, when I make a change (tried to add the Columbian pack for $2 so I could generate my bill) and there is a new line - it says "Access for TV" - whereas previously that line item was not there. I hope they aren't charging $5.00 for the initial TV now...
Possibly. In theory, $9 of the base pack has a rental fee built in. But now is this $5 a chance to get a little more? I don't know for sure. According to chat, it is a glitch and will be resolved in a timely manner, but we shall see. Part of my thinks there is a going to be a new charge, whether it is now or this fall. Here in Illinois, the law requires we are given 30 days notice of any fee changes, but I have not been given anything.
