More than once I've seen the question passing by , is it possible to connect two dishes together to get more signal from one satellite .
I know to connect two out-ports from two lnb's is almost impossible for amateurs like us by the uneven synchronisation of the LOF's , but maybe , if you can connect the wave guides together , it might be work .

So two weeks ago I started with 2 Triax TDS64 dishes , set to zero elevation .
For that I have to cut a part of the poleclamp .
Those dishes have a offset of 26º
zero elev.jpg

Than attached them opposit at a tube to find the angle between the feedhorns with enough room for 2 more feedarms .

angle set-up.jpg

angle-set-up-jpg.102594

Now I could make the quatro-feed and 4 long neck feedhorns .
The shape of the feedhorns are not all the same , could be a issiue to solve later .

quatro feed.jpg

quatro-feed-jpg.102601

To let look it like a four leaf clover , I made a cross pole at a temporary stand with a fine elevation adjuster , later I noticed thats a bad idea since each dish must be optimised single .
Thats easier to do when they are horizontal or vertical .

elev adjuster.jpg

elev-adjuster-jpg.102598

Pointed the set to Astra 19.2º E and found a high signal ( S 60% ) at 10744 H but with bad quality ( 28% ) , but it still gives me a picture .
I do have a Clarketech Combo satmeter , that connected to my 1.2 M Fibo gregorian dish , shows 55% S on that TP with a Q of 54%

four leaf clover.jpg

four-leaf-clover-jpg.102600

As you can see there where bad weather conditions and I run out of time that day no chance to tweak each dish . There I stopped .

To set each dish to the optimum , I gonna turn the cross to upright .
When each dish is proper set I want to remove the feedarms and replace them for a tube from the centre off the cross to the centre bolt at the quatro feed .

Today I finished some changes , made a 25 mm diameter bar through the centre of the cross fitting in a gearbox .
The gearbox is on top of the modded poleclamp and can be turned by a hand to turn each dish on top .
Also had to make a new elevation fine adjuster .
Now the quattro-feed is also connected by a M10 threaded rod to the top of the 25 mm bar .

gear cross.jpg

If I find the time tomorrow I will attach the other dishes and test again .

Figuring out the phasing system for this project begets an excedrin headache... at least for me. One millimeter difference on reflector distance to the feedhorn can displace 2-3dB of signal. Times that by 4 for the different reflectors, and the feedhorn to waveguide interface...

Basically by adding another 3 reflectors you are multiplying the reflector surface area, and offset dishes are basically a portion of a prime focus reflector parabola. I would think using one feedhorn pointing at the center would likely more than compensate for feed/waveguide losses. Just need to adjust for focal depth of the assembly, which would be 50% of what one dish would represent if you calculate the total width and depth of the assembly. Using a prime focus scaler would help too.

Adding mesh/screen behind the assembly would help block ground/terrestrial interference seeping in between the "pedals" and help improve S/N as well.

Just my 1 1/2 cents. (definately not worth 2 cents). :)

Since the quattro feed is now at the bar , I can remove the feedarms .
Once there is a reasonble signal , testing with a pf lnb (flat scalaring) was already my goal .
I was aware from the noise coming through the openings .
The setup above is only a start and a way to kill my free time and keep me (us) occupied .

I forgot to rapport my progress findings at this board , the quattro feed was the most critical part .
With two feedhorns opposit and closing the other openings there was a little increase versus a single Triax TDS64 dish .
But with all four feedhorns I lost a lot of signal .
So I stopped this project and dismanteled the structure , but kept the avatar .

One hell of an interesting project, but not something I would tackle, given the fact that I don't have the engineering expertise to do such projects. I did once upon a time, take a Unimesh 10 foot dish, remove the screen, saving it of course, and cut aluminum panels out of flat sheet metal used to make gutters, and replaced the wire mesh with these panels. Luckily, I had a friend with a metal shear that made the cutting process much easier.

The screen wasn't in the best shape, so I figured I had nothing to lose by doing it. It turned out to be a stellar idea that worked great. The dish was actually hooked up before starting this project, so I noted the signal level. Noted it again after installing the new panels and got a signal level 46% higher than the wire mesh. It also worked like a champ on Ku. Then disaster struck. Had a really bad storm the next summer that resulted in a tree being uprooted that took out the dish.

I have a 7 1/2 foot dish just like it that has damage to the screens and I've been considering the same thing with it. It's kind of a pain in the butt since Unimesh saw fit to have their screen slide onto slots along the inside edge of the ribs, and then welded a piece of aluminum L channel along the outside edge of the dish, blocking the removal of the screen by sliding it out. It also makes it difficult to put screens back in track if they're punched out. In order to correct this problem, it becomes necessary to remove about a quarter inch of the lip along the outside of the dish.

Like yours, it was one of those projects I worked on in my spare time.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.🙁

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

As I recall you have the Flex package. Do you sub to multisport? -02 is FS1 and -03 is ESPN. -01 is Fox so you would get that if you sub to locals.

As an edit, you need to sub to the National Action Pack at $12 a month to receive those channels.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Meh. The 4Ks I have will do everything that these do that I need them to do.

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Don't tell them that. They'll adopt planned obsolescence.

The only thing I can see that is compelling is the AV1 decoding done in the A19's hardware instead of the current ATV4K's processor.

Not a bit. IMO, apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only stick I with the Apple tv's is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is not worth sticking with it. Later, Apple!

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Actually, it is. A couple of people PMed me when I posted this, and when I asked for an address, they never responded. Then I just sort of let it go. Send me a PM to continue the discussion

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.
