My Openbox S9 on the Raydx dish suddenly had a TP not show any quality yesterday and I'm not sure what the problem is?

I use 4120 V 30000 on 97W to set time on my systems, mainly because most of my recording is done on 97W and 99W and that TP has the correct time. It's a CBS feed that's not broadcasting all the time but that TP always has the correct time whether there's a program on it or black screen.

So yesterday I noticed that the time was off on the S9 when I went to do a recording on KRBK? So I went back to 97w and 4120 to set the clock, but there was "No Signal" on the TV screen??? Hummmm.............. So I checked on the Winegard system that's here in the shop also with the Micro HD and that TP had Rachael Ray on. S9 system still showed "No Signal" on the Raydx?? So I connected the spare S9 I have to that Raydx system and got "No Signal" with that one also??

Then I connected the AZ Elite to that Raydx system and went to 97W and 4120 and Rachael Ray was on, meaning it is the S9 Receiver not the dish/system?? Rescanned with the S9 and STILL can't get 4120 to lock or scan in?? WTF??

So I took that S9 and connected it to the Winegard dish and got no signal on 4120 there either???

So, what would make that S9 loose that TP? Did something change in the TP/ feed??

If you have a PCIe / USB tuner or a spectrum analyzer, compare the spectrum display between when channels are viewable and not. You are experiencing signal loss on channels and during times that others are not. I wold lean towards agreeing with your suspecting localized interference.

Did you ever get a dual output LNB with the Wifi filters? I'd be interested if you did. I know you have singles, but when I asked the last time, there was no dual LNB's with it.

Any plans for one in the future?

It is possible.

That would be great. Is there anything that can filter out interference once it passes through the LNB? I think I know the answer. No, right. I've been thinking of installing a 24 inch aluminum shield around the circumference of the dish to block stray signals before it gets to the LNB. It has to be coming from one of two places, both of which are on the same cell tower. My wireless internet is using 900mhz & 2.5ghz, and then there are the cell phone transmissions.

Last evening, MeTV Ozarks and Movies were stronger than ever. Both running 95%/87% on the signal and quality. I even had This above its usual signal strength. It doesn't affect Galaxy 19 or SES1.
Titanium
NO. Interference typically cannot be filtered once the signal is downconverted by the LNB to an IF for distribution to the receiver.

To address interference, you first must identify the source and frequency of the interference. Installing filters, moving dishes or installing shields without knowing the source and frequencies is like a game of pin the tail on the donkey or swinging at a piñata. You might get lucky....

A bandpass filter inserted in the waveguide between the feedhorn and LNB will attenuate/eliminate frequencies above and below the downlink frequencies. This is helpful if out of band signals are causing an overload of the LNB conversion or tuner.

If the interfering signal is within the downlink frequency range, the signal must be either physically blocked (shielded by terrain/structure) or specific notch filter(s) to attenuate the interfering frequency range(s). A notch filter is usually the last process to consider as it is custom manufactured, expensive and attenuates both the target and the offending signals in the notched frequency range.

...Last evening, MeTV Ozarks and Movies were stronger than ever. Both running 95%/87% on the signal and quality. I even had This above its usual signal strength...

That's interesting...I know(?) there should be no correlation but the OTA signal was 5 bars out of 5 on my 46" Toshiba's signal strength meter last night.

I didn't even check the C-band feed since OTA was working so well, should have.

Typically those OTA channels (49-1 thru 49-4), before whatever change that occurred within the last month or 2 (not just these but several OTA channel assignments and numbers changed), would run 4-to-5 bars out of 5 and never pixellate.

The last month or 2 they have been 3-to-4 bars most of the time and dropping to 2-to-3 or even less occasionally, usually in the evening.

When the signal drops below 3 bars pixellation occurs.

This area is very mountainous and covered with lots of large trees, lots of hills and hollers that have reception issues.

These links explain why these channels are available via C-band and how they distribute it OTA:

KRBK - Wikipedia

Distributed single-frequency network:

Distributed transmission system - Wikipedia

Here's a few existing somewhat similar systems they mention on that wiki page:

"In Puerto Rico, Spanish language independent WSTE 7 "Super Siete" currently operates multiple analogue transmitters on the same frequency to cover various portions of the same island; this system has shown limitations due to interference between the transmitters if all are operational simultaneously. Use of a properly synchronised digital DTS could help to reduce this interference.

In Pennsylvania, independent WTVE is licensed to serve Reading even though its primary audience is in Philadelphia. A distributed transmission system now allows it to tailor its coverage area to improve coverage in areas where its signal is currently marginal.

In Virginia public television WVPT/WVPY operate a combined total of five additional on-channel synchronised transmitters to fill areas blocked by mountains from two main VHF/UHF transmitters; a set of US$100,000 synchronised digital transmitters can replace service from the same number of conventional analogue broadcast translators and also enable overnight datacasting of instructional materials to the area's 188 schools.[23][24]

In New Mexico, Telemundo affiliate KTDO proposes DTS as a means of pairing a low-power DTV facility currently operating in its community of license (Las Cruces) with a second facility atop a mountain overlooking El Paso, Texas in order to reach a wider audience.[25]

In Missouri, FOX affiliate KRBK operates a DTS as a way to service the Springfield, Missouri market from 5 transmission points based around the Springfield DMA. This system went on air in late 2011, and is still being revised today.

In Alaska, Anchorage MyTV affiliate KYES-TV operates with limited resources and equipment, covering a large and sparsely populated area with many small broadcast translator stations. While broadcast signal synchronization is not an issue (as the overlap between signals falls entirely into unpopulated areas), the ability to re-use multiple small transmitters may allow the station to avoid the cost of building one large, expensive main transmitter for its digital signal."

Do I need a collection of handheld radios, scanners and speed enforcement countermeasures? Nope, but I want them. Very little, if any of the software used to interface with these devices is available on Linux.

For niche use cases, yes I agree. Kali for ethical hacking and security testing, and running a Cacti server for network monitoring are the two things I have experience in. Plus thousands and thousands of other things, but for every day use I just can't see it. The owner of the GMRS repeater that I pay to access is changing the Tx DPL tones tomorrow, while Chirp is available on Linux, the software to program my MXT500 is not.

I run Fedora and Ubuntu in VMWare, honestly I don't care much for the UI of either of them and I don't feel like spending days/weeks to customize the UI to make it look Windows-like when I could just use Windows. The cartoonish dock at the bottom of the screen reminds me of Apple products.
EarDemon
I have no OEM bloat, on CTO devices where I can access the drive, I order it with the smallest allowed drive and crack the device open throw the factory drive in the garbage and put in my own WD Black and install Windows from bootable media. For Windows bloat, I install Windows using the English - World option which limits preinstalled MS bloat.

Windows and Office features I wish to block, like CoPilot and Cortana, macro enabled Office files and others are blocked with GPOs.

Between keeping all software up to date, doing firmware updates, putting IoT devices on a separate VLAN, running Symantec Endpoint (say what you want about it, it's been good to me) and practicing safe hex, I'm vigilant but not paranoid about security.

With NVMe SSDs, my cold boot up time on all devices is under 30 secs as well. Fast boot disabled, BitLocker drive encryption enabled.

I have nothing against Linux, been paying with it on and off since 2004ish, it's just not the right solution for me.
HipKat
it's just not the right solution for me.
As I said above, and, FWIW, I run Win11 Pro and Arch on separate 250 GB NVME drives, using F8 to select which I boot to, with a 1TB SSD for storage, accessible to both OSs and a third formatted Nvme I want to use to learn Kali. It was much faster to setup Arch than it was to strip down Windows. Windows still takes much longer to boot.

What is so fantabulous about the Windows UI? By many accounts, it has been going downhill since Windows 7.

There are Linux desktops that offer Windows or Mac UIs, yet you don't hear much chatter about them outside of questions about when the creators might get sued.

Because it's what I prefer. I know I've said this a few times, I use Open Shell to give me the cascading start menu a la WIN 95 and NT4.0. The only reason I went from Windows Vista to 7 back in the day was because of Classic Shell. I cannot stand anything other than the OG start menu from 30+ years ago. I'm using ExplorerPatcher to give me Windows 10 UI elements of the taskbar and right click context menus.

If you could take a look at how I set up Windows 95, you'd find many similarities to how I use 11.

I could probably use that as a starting point, but I don't like the full size icons. If you have to click on each folder that's also a no-go for me, it has to be cascading.

I used to have Peppermint Linux in a VM, that was about as close as I could get to recreating a Windows NT4.0 style of menu structure, but I could never get it to scale properly in VMWare on a 4K display and eventually gave up.

Whatever the boot up time it's fine with me. The longest part of my bootup is the HP SureStart BIOS integrity check. Once that is done, it's only a few more seconds. I haven't done this reg tweak yet since the reformat, but I switched the bootup animation to the Windows 10 style spinning circle of dots, and it's two and a half rotations. I can live with that.

I hope you don't believe that makes it wonderful (especially when you're using workarounds for Microsoft's malfeasance).

I use LibreOffice as opposed to Microsoft office (even in Windows) because it's UI is like the Office of old, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is (in a manner of speaking). The ribbon was one of the worst ideas to come out Redmond.

I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Help, I'm a little confjused on the activation process.
I purchased the Joey 4 from Solid Signal and shipping box has Call 866 726-4282 to Avtivate new Receiver. That number is Solid Signals number.
I googled and that search said call Dish to activate. I assume that is correct unless this requires a 2 step process.
Please let me know.
Thanks

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Not a bit. IMO, apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only stick I with the Apple tv's is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is not worth sticking with it. Later, Apple!

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

Oh, I Hate the idea ...

It would be different if it was a game that you could play 2 or games each week, but when you only play 1 game a week, the larger playoff is Not a good thing ...

The season has how many games now, is it 14 ... then you want to play another 5 (with more to come) against Top 12 (eventually 24 teams) ... remember, the 5 games in the playoffs will be the hardest games all year and back to back.

For example, IF Ohio State should win it all this year ... they play 5 teams in the Top 25, plus they would play 5 more to win it all, depending on how the ranking shake out and if Bye weeks are given.

Thats 10 Ranked teams ... in one year ...
I don't see that happening very often ...
Edit, Bama plays 4, Georgia plays 3, But Ole Miss plays 5 (didn't expect to see that)

That said, I don't see the Buckeyes winning it all this year.

As an edit, you need to sub to the National Action Pack at $12 a month to receive those channels.

Which is what is interesting, I see the 4KFox channel on 148-01 but we're not subscribed to our Locals. So why it's coming in is puzzling. I thought that maybe it was a perk for Dish subscribers for the MLB Postseason.

I set a Timer for the Indiana - Ohio State game on Saturday. I'll take advantage of it while I can.

On Tuesday, I recorded the first episodes of the new season's NCIS shows on CBS (Dish provided, not OTA). The new New York series and Origins will both do Auto Skip, but the original, now season 24 does not. What's stranger, when I do a search for NCIS, Origins and New York show the current recording and the next episode it will record, but the original show only shows the current recording and some other channel showing the very first episode of season one. It makes no sense. When I set up the timers, I was able to use search for Origins and New York, but for the original, I had to scroll ahead in the guide until last Tuesday when the show was airing. Then set the timer from there. You can see its timer type is DVR where the other two are Seek. What am I missing?
Thanks!

With both CBS and Fox autohop (as we know) is not enabled for a week..But after 24 hours if you mash the FF button until the red kangaroo shows up in the bottom right you wont overshoot the program. No need to try to figure how long the break is.

Yep. We do this all the time, but we use the 30-sec skip forward button until the red kangaroo shows up. Love this feature.

I'm a bit confused about the recording methods.
Do you havePrime Time Anytime enabled, by doing that you don't have to set recordings for Prime time programs on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox stations, it's done daily, 7 days a week.
And only 2 weeks recordings are saved, no deletions either.
