One other thing to add and ask about regarding my HR34 Genie that died today (hard drive died). When we moved where we live now 3 years ago, we brought two HR20's and one HR22 from our old house. We had the Directv guy install the HR22 in one of our bedrooms. Then we had them install a Genie (HR34-700) in our living room and a C31-700 in another room. Directv told me they would send recovery kits for the two HR20's but they never did so. I chose not to do their job for them so those two are still stored in boxes in my attic.

If I brought one of those down, would Directv allow me to reactivate one of those older HR20's??? Would they even work on the current Sat network??? Not as a Genie of course but as a stand alone HD-DVR??? I don't know how they handle the fact that the access card has been used before, by ME, some 3+ years ago. Would they let me activate that again??? To tide us over while we figure out the best way to get an HR54 to replace our dead HR34???

thanks

Thats a question for them ....
Techincally they determined at the time that they didn't want it back .... you kept it, they prefer you toss it ... they tell people all the time if they are not refurbishing them to keep them...
I don't know what they would say if you called in and wanted to reactivate your old HR20, however, you COULD do that, as it is SWM compatible.

Thanks for the response. I know that SWM is Single Wire Multiswitch (at least, I think??) but it's been a while since I think I knew what that meant. Can you refresh my memory about what SWM means and relate that to the HR20's that you say are "SWM compatible"??? I will also go look it up on Google but if you have a moment, update me if you would. thanks...

OK, sorry for bothering you jimbo as I found a good, concise answer on SolidSignal. As follows...

"What Qualifies as a SWM System?

A SWM (Single Wire Multiswitch) System consists of either a satellite dish with SWM Technology built in, or a multiswitch with SWM Technology.

SWM Dishes are identified by having a single output, and are the only dish to require a power supply. Examples of SWM Dish are the SL3-SWM and SL5-SWM

A SWM Switch takes all four outputs from a satellite dish, and produces a single output, which can be divided up with splitters. The benefit of this system is only having to run one line to a DVR, which normally requires two lines. It also allows for a distribution with splitters, similar to how cable TV is setup.

Another benefit of SWM comes with the addition of a DECA Adapter, that feeds internet into one of the outputs from a SWM Systems. This enables every receiver to have a network connection through a single coax.

With the combination of a SWM technology and DECA, you get a DIRECTV Connected Home which features MRV or Multi-Room Viewing. This enables a house with a HD-DVR to be controlled by other HD Receivers in the building. "

I know my system has the DECA boxes for adding internet and I am pretty sure the line going to our stand alone HR22 is a single wire even though we can record and watch something else at the same time. So the HR22 and you're saying, I think, that the HR20's are also SWM compatible, right???

thanks...

Yes, I believe the HR20s started the SWM technology, however, it was called something else and the back of your HR20 will have something on Sat port 1 (FRC or something like that)

FTM is what SWM started as, at least thats what was stamped on the HR20s ....

Never did find out what exactly it stood for, but it was short lived when the SWM came aboard.
S
FTM stood for frequency translation module. Which is what SWM does but maybe they liked the latter name which it was easy to pronounce since they could add the lowercase 'i' and call it SWiM.

That's it ...
It was stamped on the unit but I don' think I ever used it as such, I don' recall it ever going any farther, next thing you knew, SWM was all the talk.

By the way, I WAS able to reactivate my HR20's and after some interesting issues getting the HR20 to stop telling me it couldn't find a good signal on Sat Input 2 (yes, because there was NO CABLE hooked up to the Sat Input 2, the entire idea behind SWM, right???) I did finally get one of my HR20's up and running where the Genie had been before. No internet as the HR34 must have pulled it right off the Sat cable whereas the HR22 we still have up and running in another room had a DECA box hooked up which splits the signal back out into a Sat cable and an Ethernet cable??? If I am saying that right. But otherwise, we currently have TV up and running again on one of these HR20's and DTV did confirm that, yes, it is SWM compatible. I still have the second of two HR20's that I might or might not connect in place of my C31 Mini in another room that currently has no mothership to talk with. DTV happily activated both and deactivated my HR34 Genie and this one C31 Mini. They told me if I do decide to get a replacement for the Genie, that they would reactivate it just long enough for me and a support person to ensure that it's dead a second time. Then they would send me a replacement. Complicated but oh well.

Anyway, yes, HR20's are SWM compatible. thanks for all the help. Do see higher up where I've posted a related followup question about how I might proceed regarding replacing the Genie or maybe going with standalone, newer HD-DVR's, like HR24's??? See that just posted and beginning with the word "Followup"... thanks

I would call in and tell them you need your HR34 replaced as your having trouble with it, tell them you will have a 4K tv soon, this way they give you a HR54.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Yeah. It's probably something going on with the MacBook as my iPhone has been pretty snappy.

I rebooted my MacBook Air and it's zipping right along. Sorry, but it was taking over 20 seconds to load pages, with the pulsing blue bars so it was munching on something.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

with a Seat belt as last resort.
According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's

I bought the fixed color version of these bulbs for my store several years ago...work great and no more replacing ballast. Finally had one go out and when I went back to Amazon I saw that now they come in selectable versions so no more guess work as to what color light would do best in a certain area. They are now double OR single ended...used to be strictly one way or the other. If any of you are looking at replacing the old style 4 or 8 ft bulbs, you might want to give these a try. The 8 footers are BRIGHT. I put 5 in my shooting/target shed and you can get a decent tan if you are in there long enough.

When we re-lamped my in-Laws' house for sale last year, we were able to get all the Edison bulbs and a few fixtures with switch-selectable Color Temperature. We tried a few and settled on 3000°K as the best fit for the house. Matching the lighting in all the rooms made for an inviting experience. The Shop was the only place that we went with 4000°K for the LED 4' fixtures.

The house was sold within a month of going on the market, so we must have done something right.

The other advantage is if the new owners decide that they prefer a warmer light, they can unscrew the bulbs (I think it was close to 70 bulbs) and set them to the 2500K/2700K settings.

I'll have to check these out. Thanks!
