Ok, at my new house I finally put up an old fixed 3ABN 39" KU dish with a Geosatpro SL2pll Standard Ku dual lnb. I haven't done this up to now, because with the tree cover, I never figured I could get anything, so just didn't bother trying till now. So, I installed this dish on a eve mount, and it's 20~ft above ground level. That helps clearing the close 85ft or so trees.

Anyway, on my old MicroHD receiver, I was trying to aim for 97W (figured this would be easy, and I'd go from there), and set the elevation to 38 degrees, 12.9 ~ skew and more or less pointed towards ~205magnetic.

I then set the menu, and did a standard blind scan. Here's the channels I scanned in, and darn if I can figure out what sat this REALLY is! Do you know? What happened to "The List", as I can't find it here anymore...

1: Interface (playing basketball right now, upper left of screen has MSG logo) 11961/13000
2: $HSTDv (12074/20000)
3: $SHOP 1 (12074/20000) Etc right down the list...
4: $CPACF
5: $CTV2L
6: $OMNPR
7: $CTV-L
8: $CKSA
9: $SHOP 2
10: $RCVu0
11: $VU22

14: $CPAC
15: $TLC

Let's not continue with any discussion that way, or we are going to get my thread locked.

I simply bought it to watch the stuttering channels on 101w. If I could find a legit receiver that's capable of locking those, and that didn't cost way too much, I'd buy that instead. It's not easy here in North America to get good info on what receiver does what, or that doesn't cost nearly $200, and isn't super complicated to run.

I need a receiver that WORKS, including the stuttering channels. It MUST be capable of Diseqc motor control with a V or G box, and not lock up or reboot when using that. It MUST have really good DVR controls like the MicroHD has had for 5~ years now, such as 30 timers, 30 second skip forward and back, and file place marking and 'jumping-to' capability. CC would also be nice, and a GOOD CLOCK that actually keeps time!

All that just doesn't seem available to us here, and that's just sad.

1. I've got some of these same concerns with incompatibility between ATSC (OTA) receiver and a local FOX station--receiver WORKS BAD, drops video and audio every few seconds while having a good quality signal. All other stations work normal. So far, I've only concluded it MIGHT be the very common and very widely cloned problematic software on chip. I've been researching replacing with another (third receiver) with a different software on chip. One of two recievers lockup, reboot, and in the process corrupt user channels (constantly going back in to reset channels and schedules), been this way since new.

2
. On the satellite system, dealing with the receiver that won't retain correct time for one day even with Standby turned off.

I have a daily recording setup to kick off at 4am-6am for FETV, for Sergeant Preston, and Lassie (ranger years). So last night I moved my dish to 113w for the various RetroTv horror movies with no issues, it was about 11 degrees F here at that time. This morning I got up around 5am to use the bathroom, and noticed that the G-box was flashing its display. I looked at the outside thermometer, and it was -4F! Dish or actuator or motor was frozen or something.

Temp finally got to +1F about 10 minutes ago, and the dish now moves again. I've never had this happen before with my older dish on a different Venture actuator, but I'm using the Venture actuator that came with this SAMI dish, so I'm not sure what on it actually froze.

It's rare for it to go this cold around here anymore, but the whole week is supposed to be like this with freezing cold, so not sure what I'm going to do about this as of yet, as it probably is likely to happen again.

Maybe some grease froze, and I need to replace it with one that has a lower temp ability? Anybody got an idea what (beyond heat tape) would help for it to work normally at cold temps below zero F?
primestar31
Well, it's 26°F out there right now, and my dish wouldn't move again, though I had moved it from 99w to 101w hours ago with no issues. This time I was done with 101w, and was trying to move it back to 99w. The Gbox was showing a weird display on the front every time I tried to move it. I then discovered by accident, that it would move WEST with the manual West button, and I could move it back to 99w FETV with the manual East button, but not beyond that.

So, I looked up the Gbox manual, and it said that the display I was seeing was because the EAST soft limit had been set! I NEVER set either the West or East limits on the Gbox itself, I only set those as hard limits with the manual microswitch setup inside the Venture actuator. So, somehow the Gbox set the soft limits by itself! Or, the MicroHD receiver did it, but without any input from me. In this case, I held down the LIMITS button on the Gbox remote for 10 seconds, and it did a countdown, and cleared it all up. Everything now works properly again. I remember reading some threads way back when something like this happened to others, but not what they thought about it, or if they figured out why it did it. Or if it's "just one of those (magical) things".

Anybody got any theories?

P.S. a few minutes later I started thinking: "MAYBE the Gbox got confused with the IR signals from another remote, and used that to set itself"! In other words, perhaps pushing some buttons on another remote hit the same IR frequency the Gbox is looking for... Hummmm...
primestar31
For now, I covered the front of the IR sensor on the Gbox with some heavy cardboard. Theory being some remote signal got through from a different remote, and caused it to set a soft East limit. IF it happens again, I'll have to consider that the MicroHD somehow sent a signal via coax to set the limit, OR that the Gbox is going wonky. I hope not, but it was given to me used, and I don't know much about it. I do have a Vbox X and another Gbox (NOS!), so I'm covered either way.
M
I used to use a GBox and it would set the east limit to the position you were at after doing a blind scan. I thought this was associated with the receiver I was using. To prevent this I would turn off the GBox with the remote before the blind scan. Unlike a VBox which won't turn off when the receiver is powered up, the GBox will turn off.
Given the choices you have, I would ditch the GBox and use the VBox X.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Yeah. It's probably something going on with the MacBook as my iPhone has been pretty snappy.

I rebooted my MacBook Air and it's zipping right along. Sorry, but it was taking over 20 seconds to load pages, with the pulsing blue bars so it was munching on something.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's

I bought the fixed color version of these bulbs for my store several years ago...work great and no more replacing ballast. Finally had one go out and when I went back to Amazon I saw that now they come in selectable versions so no more guess work as to what color light would do best in a certain area. They are now double OR single ended...used to be strictly one way or the other. If any of you are looking at replacing the old style 4 or 8 ft bulbs, you might want to give these a try. The 8 footers are BRIGHT. I put 5 in my shooting/target shed and you can get a decent tan if you are in there long enough.

When we re-lamped my in-Laws' house for sale last year, we were able to get all the Edison bulbs and a few fixtures with switch-selectable Color Temperature. We tried a few and settled on 3000°K as the best fit for the house. Matching the lighting in all the rooms made for an inviting experience. The Shop was the only place that we went with 4000°K for the LED 4' fixtures.

The house was sold within a month of going on the market, so we must have done something right.

The other advantage is if the new owners decide that they prefer a warmer light, they can unscrew the bulbs (I think it was close to 70 bulbs) and set them to the 2500K/2700K settings.

I'll have to check these out. Thanks!
