Hi folks.
Lot's of time on my hands like probably most of you too.
It's time to start thinking how I'm going to mount a Ku LNBF along side of my Titanium C Band on a 12 footer with button hook feed.
Since we need some fresh air would I be able to see a few photos of how you have yours mounted?

I'm not sure if I need to grab a scalar with a cutout or just fire up the band saw and tig welder and make my own.
Or how many are parking theirs at the edge of the scalar.
How to "clock" it. Nothing to do with skew but I suspect it would be horizontal to the dish if looking at it straight on if the dish was up in the air pointing at 72ish degrees where the C band LNBF is more or less at 0 degrees skew. Make sense?
Another question too would be along with your photos could you note about how much you have to move the dish east or west in relation to a strong C band signal versus getting the Ku signal peaked if you have an actuator.

Maybe my sketch makes sense. Chicken scratch and all.

Arlo,

this is what i'm doing:
I have an ASC-1 and an OSMIO-4K. I have Linear C-Band in the normal spot, with Ku and Circular C-Band on each sides. They are all connected to a Diseqc 1.0 switch.
In the ASC-1, I have separate entries for C-Band and Ku-Band for the same satellites. This is critical since they will be received on different angles of the dish

In the OS MIO 4K, one LNB entry is set for Linear C-Band, one for Ku and one for Circular C-Band. Each satellite entry is set to the appropriate LNB entry, with the diseqc setting matching the way the LNBFs are wired. In your case I believe you are using a 22kHz switch, so instead of diseqc you would set "Tone" to on or off.

So for example I have
87W Ku using LNB2 (Ku)
87W C using LNB1 (C Linear)
47.5W C using LNB3 (C Circular)
34.5W C using LNB3
34.5W Ku using LNB2

each has a different Diseqc 1.2 number, and each position in the ASC-1 has its own count since the positions don't align because of the way the LNBFs are mounted

So you might need to download your ASC-1 config list, add all the Ku satellites as additional entries, and re-upload (it's a lot easier to do it on a computer than through the remote)

I hope this helps.

What E2 image are you using?
In OpenATV 6.3 all I see are:
C-Band
User Defined
KA-SAT
Circular LNB
Unicable / JESS
Universal LNB

That's where I hit a brick wall. I see this post that says it is supposed to be the right one for the US. :

Also I see in the photo it appears that the Ku mounted beside the C Band is rotated 90 degrees from what I'd consider the reference of the C Band LNBF's 0 skew reference. Am I wrong?

I'm using TNAP that came with the receiver, and also a few other images for playing around. As far as I know, only TNAP includes a predefined LNB type for the North American standard LNB, since E2 is more Euro-centric and they don't usually have that type of LNB there.

I think in your case you should use "User Defined", set both LO to 10750, threshold at 11700

the Circular LNB in that list might be a type used for Russian satellites in Ku, i'm not sure. In any case from a receiver perspective, it does not matter if a signal is circular or linear, other than maybe suing the appropriate labels for the polarity of transponders

Just as a favor could you possibly switch your settings to your suggestions and see if you get a lock?
Can you clarify something too that may help me at least get a signal?
Without current skew angle considered is your C lnb 0 reference aligned with the Ku 0 reference?
Because the photo sure makes it look like it may be 90 degrees different.

In its simplest form for the time being I'm just using my 2nd cable in the house to power the Ku.
Later on I'll insert either a DISEqC or a 22KHz switch in the mix behind the ASC-1. The goal is to just get a Ku signal on the lowest arc sat with the strongest signal. So far no joy.
I've even managed to run the USB com port adapter through my router that I use to program the ASC-1 through Ethernet to my laptop. Slick!
B
Using a straight cable without switches is a good idea, that's one less thing to worry about. I think I read earlier that you are trying to get 125W Ku. That's a rather difficult one. While it's definitely possible to receive it well, it's also a rather touchy one, a bit like either you lock on it, or you go in circle for a while in the dark, especially from our area in the NorthEast.

Instead, try CGTN on 95W, that's probably the easiest target in Ku. Other fairly easy ones: NHK on 103W and KBS on 123W (might be easy to aim for that one and still be able to reach the LNBF from a step ladder). Once you get satisfactory reception on those, look for 125W.

As far as skew, while i'm not familiar with the SL1-PLL, I would guess that the F connector should be pointing toward the ground when the dish is aiming at the top of the arc, parallel to the polar axis of the mount. and the LNBF should be aligned with the C-Band one in the plane that is perpendicular to the polar axis. Have the front of the LNBF more or less aligned with the front of the C-Band LNBF. Keep in mind that the reflector acts as a mirror, so if your Ku LNBF is East of the C-Band, your aim will be West of the C-Band, so for a given sat, for Ku aim further East to compensate for that difference. On mine, the difference is somewhere near 8 degrees. So for 95W Ku, aim your positionner either to 103W or 87W, do a blind scan, move a bit east or west, scan again, etc. In the end you should find something. Fine tune it as mush as you can

One more thing. Your dish mount alignment was tuned with C-Band. Ku is a lot less forgiving. So you might find that the alignment that was working well for C-Band might not work so well for Ku. You might need to compromise a bit somewhere.

arlo,

I went out a short time ago between rain showers and took this picture.
As you can see the Ku LNBF is behind the the C Band feedhorn.
I'm sure fine tuning the F/D will improve the signal, but for now and because of the rainy weather, it will suffice.
Hope this helped.

That's the photo I was waiting for.
I'll put one up later of mine.
I aimed the dish at 123W C band and holy smokes couldn't get a signal. +5, +10, +15....back and forth.
Put it back on 123W C band and did a blind scan. Got enough of a "strange" list of TPs that didn't make sense.
Slapped on my Dreamlink FTA receiver (they ID sat names) and I was picking up a signal from 110W. A DN sat.
That's 80 counts difference on my ASC-1. Got my head screwed on straight and grabbed a bunch of sats.

My Ku lnbf body (not plastic rain cover) is appx. 3/8 back from the C band lnbf throat opening.
Explains why I am getting a fat beam width. Takes about +/- 10 bumps of ASC-1 counts to get or lose signal.
Tweaks come later on. I'm guessing you've peaked your signal and that tells me I need to pull my feed back a bit.
Right now signal strength is in the 16-18 dB. Better than C band actually.

The only "bug" was putting in a 22KHz 1x2 switch on the back of the ASC-1 to use both LNBF's.
No joy with receiver settings. Put on a 1x8 DISEqC 1.1switch and got both feeds working.
Perhaps a bug in OpenATV.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Well, the over the shoulder support is better, but would require reconfiguring the cars.
Jimbo
Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.

No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's
