Hello,

I Have a 1.2m Channel Master Satellite Dish, Mounted to a moteck h180 H-H motor (See Manual), which is ground mounted to a pole that has a base attached to it, im in the UK and im very confused how to Align this motor and dish to track the arc correctly, and i'm here asking for help (video tutorial with step by step instructions - make it easy for me to understand than following text and manuals if possible), its currently pointing to Astra 28.2E Which is the UK Satellite for main tv channels, i can get feeds and tv channels with this dish like this but only Astra 28.2E & Astra 23.5E, but i want to be able to track the arc correctly to pick up the following Satellites, Thor 0.8w, Eutelsat 7E, Eutelsat 9E, Eutelsat 10E, Eutelsat 16E, 1w, 3W, Hotbird 13E & Other Satellites from My Location in Norfolk, UK,

I Hope someone here is able to help me with this issue, Please Thanks

look forward to your kind responses and help

Please Be Kind and patient with me as this sort of thing isn't easy to learn (setting the Elevation and Declination Angle on this motor), hence why i'm here asking for help, i have tried to get help with this before but with no luck hence why i am here, thanks for taking time to read my Topic

i have also asked for help on other forums, which non of it was helpful, they just bullied me and have searched online for videos etc aswell but didnt find anything so im here asking for help
Thanks

me either oops, please see my attached pics i just added (on this post aswell), u will see my issues hopefully, thanks

i know people keep saying 29.8 degrees. 29.8 - 22.6 = 7.2 degrees but i cant set them angles for some reason, if u check out the pictures in my above post you will see why im confused

My pics (of how it is right now since adjusting it all)

i know you said "The face of the dish will be slightly pointed up when facing true South. The dish face will be pointed downwards when driven to the East or West of true south, The offset angle of a Channel Master 1.2m is 22.6 degrees (meaning the dish is actually pointed at a elevation that is 22.6 degrees higher than the face of the dish is aimed at), The top of the arc for true south for Norfork, UK is 29.8 degrees. 29.8 - 22.6 = 7.2 degrees, This would make the face of the dish be tilted up at only 7.2 degrees when pointed true south" < i find this difficult to do < as no one in my area knows how to do this sort of thing i have already asked around >

but what does any of that mean? as you can see my dish currently isnt point up its pointing down and the motor is at 0 degrees and on my sf8008 i can move my dish to different sats without getting any signal on any of them (due to dish and motor still not aligned correctly????), but as you can see from my pics i have tried, without any luck, still need help (please edit my pic to show what needs adjusting so i know) < PLEASE <<

on my next afternoon and or days off (weather permitted) i will set it to what you said and will post an update with pics aswel if it works)

An important question first:
How many kilos/pounds/stones do you have at the ground frame of this setup, at the moment?
This photo looks like much less than what would be needed, I guess.

I won't post anything, till this is cleared up.
Or you might soon be with a damaged dish....

there are 15 bags of stones holding the dish base down while i wait for new slabs to be delivered), i have had to move it off the concrete base temporary i made until its realigned correctly due to not being able to get round to the side of it where Screw A Is, once its fully aligned i will move it back onto the base then it will be ready to use!, today im going to do the angles on the dish/motor to hopefully get it aligned (due to it being dry and sunny here), will post updates after!

Good, that is reassuring a bit.
I would have expected concrete 'tiles' (or how are these called), like on the street sidewalk/on the pavement, but I guess bags with stones can do as well.

About your angle setup:
1) Flip the Gold Plate Upside down so the flat bit thats at the top is upside down so it slides into the gap between the lines like this pic above
This is absolutely correct.
Also rearrange the nuts on screw B as they should be! As visible in the SH103605.jpg

The setting of the declination offset angle (screw B) is useless, when the offset dish adapter plate is not mounted in the right angle. Will you please make Photos of that, seen from the side; as I have repeatedly asked?
One or two photos from near, one or two photos from far, please.
Then we can determine, what anglesetting exactly has to be done first.

And can you give more precise values for LAT and LON, instead of "Norfolk"?
Otherwise we might help you with wrong angles.

And do I understand right, that you have an inclinometer app?

Update:

i have done the following:

1) Flipped the Gold Plate Upside down so the flat bit thats at the top is upside down so it slides into the gap between the lines like this pic above (so the thin bit can slide down to 7 (only goes 0, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) i set it to 7

2) set the Motor Elevation 38 degrees (Screw A) < Long Screw (using clinometer app on my phone when it says 38 degrees then tighten up nuts on long screw)

52.7517° N, 0.4023° E

yes i have inclinometer app, i can only post pics of the mount with dish attached

see pics for updates u asked for:

best pics i can take of the motor angle (hope these help)

what does this one (Clinometer according to manual) need to be set to then 38 aswell?
according to dishpointer i should do the following:

Dish Setup Data:
Motor Latitude: 52.8°
Declination Angle: 7.5°
Dish Elevation: 22°

i have tried your way and the dishpointer way and non work :(

i have done everything described but sill not getting any signal on any satellites :(

It may be that you are disappointed a bit, now, but I'm not!

During the process of setting up a motor step by step, it is not the case that you have to rate the success of a step by the fact if you have reception already after that step. Reception along the arc is the END result, after ALL the steps.
When the first steps are not done properly, there is no need to already do the following steps, as when changing the effect of an earlier step, the later steps must be redone again!

So that is why I asked from the beginning, when I learned about the offset adapter plate, to post pictures of that. Because that could influence all the angles.

And your pictures are clear. The offset dish adapter plate now seems to be set at about 36 or 37 degrees.
The offset angle of the Channel Master dish, however, is 22.6 degrees.
However, the feedarms of the dish put the feedhorn at an actual offset angle of nearly 23.1 degrees, according to the measurements of RimaNTSS here: Channel Master 1,2m issue
So I would propose to take as the "actual" offset angle of the dish: 23.0 degrees. Which would still be 13 to 14 degrees off.

But, back to the step by step procedure. (First things first!)
- You are at 52.75 latitude, so resulting in:
Axis elevation angle = 90 - 52.75 - 0.55 = about 36.70 degree;
and declination offset = 7.54 - 0.55 = about 7.0 degree (about unchanged).

- To me, the motor axis elevation angle presently looks to be about 52 degrees (photo 11), so about 90 minus 38 degrees? Meaning you have not set the elevation angle, but the complement angle.
So it looks like you should set the elevation about as the little scale in photo 3.jpg shows.
By the way: the axis elevation angle can be set more precisely, I think, when placing an inclinometer at the motor housing. Did you do that?
When you set it at 36.7, please take a photo of how you put the inclinometer; so that we can check!

My time is up at the moment. So this is it for now.

Edit: Just to check: Your motor is definitely at zero degrees, while using your inclinometer for the angles? It should be.

A33.

ok so what do i need to do now then? i moved the dish up and down and didnt get signal, so what do i do now then? yes i used the app on my phone, what do u mean "your time is up now?"

do you mean i should set the elevation by this instead? please edit reupload and repost what number i should move it to (so i know, fyi i have tried all of them)

if yes then i need to set it to 36? as you can see it goes from 0,5,10, 15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,60,65,70,75,80,85,80 there is no option to set it to 36.7,

and what do you mean "So I would propose to take as the "actual" offset angle of the dish: 23.0 degrees. Which would still be 13 to 14 degrees off" ??
also whats up with pic 11? are you saying thats these are wrong aswell? (see this pic) (what to i need to do to correct??)

what do i need to do to correct my mistake? Titanium can you help with this please? thanks

I had no more time to spend time behind the computer; I went to other tasks.

Well yes, you can take that as a rough scale to set the elevation to about 36.7, or use the lines drawn by Titanium about the motor angle as an indication as to where about it should be. (These lines represent the present, and the needed position of the axis: the axis angle.)
But of course: set it with an inclinometer; that would allow more precise setting.

also whats up with pic 11? are you saying thats these are wrong aswell? (see this pic)
Indeed. That is the offset adapter plate, that should be set matching the offset angle.
The angle between topbolt left to bottombolt to topbolt right should be 23 degrees, but is now about 36-37 degrees (13-14 degrees off).

But first, let's go back to the elevation setting, which is indeed done with screw A.
1. Loosen the nuts a little bit, that hold the motor to the mast, and that hold screw A to the motor housing.
2. Then adjust screw A by moving the nuts along it; till you measure the correct elevation angle.
3. Then fix the previously loosened nuts again.
And yes, when you adjust screw A, the whole motor moves (including the motor axis). That is the purpose of it!
And therefore, while setting angles, you have to loosen the fixing nuts a bit.

I had no more time to spend time behind the computer; I went to other tasks. < Really??

makes no sence to me, if i Loosen the nuts a little bit, that hold the motor to the mast, the whole thing will fall off (sounds funny but it really isnt!!!),

what do you mean "and that hold screw A to the motor housing" ?? < makes no sense at all <<

what do you mean by "Then adjust screw A by moving the nuts along it; till you measure the correct elevation angle" < if you mean move the bolts further up or down screw A < meaning the bolt on screw A Will be closer to the bottom of the screw or further up the pole meaning its near the very top ???

urm? which bolts? "Then fix the previously loosened nuts again" ??

Urm i know that "when you adjust screw A, the whole motor moves (including the motor axis). That is the purpose of it!
And therefore, while setting angles, you have to loosen the fixing nuts a bit" < i already know this but if i undone all of the bolts it would mess up <<

Sounds like this guy must be autistic, which is why he needs visual references to visualise what he needs to do to in order to do it, so be kind and help him as much as you can, you should be thankful that he's here asking for your help because he has found something that he is interested in doing and wants to do but need help understanding how to do it, i hope you can all help him understand what he needs to do, either step by step instructions or my making a tutorial showing him what to do, as he has said before there isn't anyone where he lives who can help him with this task.

Thanks for showing him your support.

I look forward to reading your reply's and hope he can get his issues sorted soon.

Well, forget about this text of mine, then, for now.

Let's try to check the elevation setting first.
I'm a bit lost about your present elevation setting.
In this picture, it seems to be about 36.7:

so i have set motor axis elevation angle to 36.7 degrees using the little scale on the side (see pic where i drew line) .......................................................................................... <

However in this picture, it looks about 53.3 degrees, so the "complement" angle:
1705047661843.png
In relation to this last picture, screw A must be adjusted in a way, that the whole dish will point lower.

So, which of these two photos represents your present elevation situation?

And another question:
Are you familiar with the term 'complement angle'? Meaning an angle can be set at a certain angle, but also ~~with a 90 degree rotated inclinometer~~ to the complement angle of 90 degrees MINUS that angle?

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Well, the over the shoulder support is better, but would require reconfiguring the cars.
Jimbo
Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Wouldn't we then die of old age sooner?

I still have one of those although I've been trying to wean myself off it.

Among my many email accounts I still have a .netscape.net which AOL assimilated a while back.

Hard getting used to the new younger Gibbs, Mark Harmons son had the right look but I understand he didn't want the role.
Still I'm enjoying, pretty good job with Franks.

I actually think the very first episode was One of the Best ...

Where it all started in what was it, 2003 ?

edit:
Sorry, I got the shows mixed up, were talking Origins ...
I've liked Most of them once we've gotten past the 1st 3-4, getting to know who was who took a bit in the beginning.
It's a bit harder seeing we already Know the person, then go back and see how they became that person.

Mark Harmon is coming back as Gibbs in Origins, for the full season. Just saw, Dinozzo too, on NCIS . That will be an interesting writing project.

Really good one with OG Gibbs bookending it...

Will the OG Gibbs be on NCIS or will Tony be on NCIS Origins?

Howard ...
You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's
H
It also has a IPS and a OPS switch on the side of it with a power led light showing when is on. It seems to be very nice build switch

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Yeah. It's probably something going on with the MacBook as my iPhone has been pretty snappy.

I rebooted my MacBook Air and it's zipping right along. Sorry, but it was taking over 20 seconds to load pages, with the pulsing blue bars so it was munching on something.
