Hello,

I live on the Oregon Coast and am looking to receive some C-Band feeds off both AMC-11 and SES-3 satellites. I have been unable to locate a 8-12 foot BUD that fits within my budget or even located in my area. I came across an opportunity to purchase a used Prodelin 1.8M KU-band prime-focus offset satellite dish located about 10-hours one-way. Would this reflector size work well enough for C-Band reception (using the appropriate C-Band LNBF of course) at my location? I know with C-Band, the larger the reflector, the better the reception is.

Thanks

Well with the proper LNBF and scaler you could make it work...for some C-Band.
It will make you want a bigger dish. With the broadcasting standards used today 6' is just too little.
If you already have the dish, I would say go for it, but I would think again about driving 10 hours for a 6 footer just for C-Band.
Now, on the other hand, if it is in good shape, it would make one hell of a ku dish!

I have one, and it does make a hell of a great ku dish! However, I wouldn't bother using it for c-band, as a first dish. First of all, the dish and mount probably weigh more than 250lbs. Second of all, it's only 6ft, which means you are losing 60% of the possible c-band signals you could get. It's not 2 degree compliant on c-band either.

If you really can't find a mesh dish that's at least 8ft, (you really shouldn't get a dish smaller than 10ft though) you can buy one at the following link, but your starting costs will be much higher than a "found" dish. Then again, if you think about it as saving money on paying for cable tv, and/or as a hobby, it'll eventually pay for itself (unless you get the "fever" & start buying more equipment), LOL: TEK2000.com

I've been seriously considering fixing up one of the two 1.8M Ku dishes out in the dish graveyard. I had fun doing up the 1.2 M and this would make a good project.

If you want to drive to Missoula, MT I got 10' Mesh dishes in your budget, like free.

Magic,

If I can get logistics squared away and time off from work, I will take you up on your offer! If the stars align, I will send you a PM!

Thanks again!

Do you still have a large mesh dish you would like to give away? If so, I'd be interested in taking one off your hands.
As you can see in the pics there are a few 10 footers. There is another location where the solid dishes are stored. How far do you have to travel?

What better way to compliment a free C-Band dish than to get a free Ku dish too. EmCommSat and I ran out the horse pasture where many dishes are hidden away and picked out a nice 1.2M PrimeStar. He was happy to see the horses too. Selfie Time

Nice Dish!

All loaded up and ready for the trip home

Wow Magic it's like you've got a warehouse of dishes. Do you have any solid C band dishes you would be interested in parting with?

I've been interested in procuring a second commercial dish but I've been having a hard time finding anything but meshes. Winter's comin' and I'm running out of time
