2011 MLB Trade Deadline/Rumors

The Red Sox are reportedly close to acquiring A's pitcher Rich Harden.

I'm cool with this............Worst case scenario: Buchholz can't come back, and Harden is the #3 starter. Best case: Buchholz returns, and Harden falls to #4.

NESN reporting this also, pending a physical...

Reportedly it's for 1B Lars Anderson and a PTBNL...

Looks like the Indians are gonna acquire the biggest fish on the starting pitching market........good for them:

Indians To Acquire Ubaldo Jimenez

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 30 at 8:12pm CST]
8:12pm: Ubaldo is getting hugs in the dugout and has been removed from the game. The deal appears to be going through.
8:01pm: It appears that the Indians are getting a fourth player, Jon Heyman of SI.com reports (on Twitter).
7:47pm: Jimenez is currently on the mound for the Rockies and pitching against the Padres. That's a pretty clear indication that a trade has not been finalized. Esmil Rogers is currently warming up in the bullpen however, says Renck (on Twitter).
7:13pm: Jimenez is currently out in the bullpen and warming up to pitch against the Padres according to Renck (on Twitter), so the deal may not be done yet. He could still pitch for Colorado before a trade is finalized, but teams typically won't risk injury in this situation.
Joel Sherman of The New York Post reports (on Twitter) that four days ago the Yankees asked the Rockies if they could perform a physical on Jimenez if the two sides came to an agreement on a trade. Colorado refused, so the Yankees backed out.

How bizarre that the Rockies would not allow a physical to be done , they have to have one anyways before the deal can be completed.

A trade that had been in the works to send right-hander Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics to the Boston Red Sox has reportedly fallen through.

A person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the private nature of such talks.

Harden said Saturday night he was told by general manager Billy Beane he was staying put and would start Tuesday. The clubs had been close to a swap that would have sent Harden to Beantown and brought Triple-A first baseman Lars Anderson to the A's.

Report: Red Sox deal for A's pitcher Rich Harden fall through, source says - ESPN

UPDATE: The deal was killed by Harden's medical history. According to an MLB source, the Red Sox pulled the plug after reviewing Harden's records and coming to the conclusion he would not be able to get through the season.

MLB Network also stated Bedard is a Sox

Other moves not mentioned here today:

Derek Lee went to the Pirates
Ludwick went to the Pirates
Orlando Cabrera went to the Giants
Bourn goes to the Braves
Mike Adams to the Rangers (probably the best reliever in baseball)
Furcal to the Cards

The Pirates get two middle of the order bats in Lee and Ludwick. Who would have predicted they would be buyers at the deadline?

From Buster Olney: 3-team deal Bedard for BOS: Federowicz, 2 other minor leaguers to LAD, Trayvon Robinson, Chih Hsien Chiang to SEA for Bedard,Fields

Treyvon Robinson is one of the Dodger minor leaguers. He was traded to the Sox and the Sox then turned around and traded him to Seattle.

Ultimate Astros » Astros upheaval continues as Bourn traded to Atlanta

Astros trade Michael Bourne to Atlanta for outfielder Jordan Schafer, lefthander Brett Oberholtzer, righthander Paul Clemens and righthander Juan Abreu. The Stros have now divested themselves of anyone that I have head of except for Humberto Quintero, long time mediocre catcher and Carlos Lee and his $18.5 million per contract.

Not sure if this trade will really help the Braves enough but they gave up little for Bourne. Good job Frank Wren.

As a die hart Mets fan and consequently, a watcher of NL East baseball Phils are in trouble .... if you think Bourn ran in Houston, that was nothin.

With Buchholz quite possibly shut down for the year, it's too bad the Sox couldn't have landed BOTH Bedard and Harden (if he was somewhat healthy). That way, they could have increased their chances of capturing lightning in a bottle over the next two plus months.

Still, they have Lackey, who is physically sound, looking almost serviceable as a third starter, and if starters start falling by the wayside, they can start Aceves, Millwood, Weiland and now Bedard. That's not a bad situation for contingent fifth starters.

Mike Adams to the Rangers (probably the best reliever in baseball)

Yup, the Rangers put the rest of the AL on notice with their revamped bullpen.

The last I heard, Ludwick was headed to Cleveland. Wow, the Pirates really helped themselves this afternoon!

ESPN's report of the Bedard trade furnishes a link to the wrong Josh Bedard. The one the Red Sox got is a minor league pitching prospect. The one they linked is a young third baseman.
