3D tv?

Wife doesn't want to wear 3D glasses. I have seen 3D sets, that without glasses, look like normal HD and others that have a double image, like a movie theater. Can anyone explain the difference?

Probably in 2D or could be broadcasting in a different form. Curently without glasses, 3D will either look blurry (images offset), 2 distinct side by side images, or 2 distinct top and bottom images. Right now there are no 3D TVs available that don't require either active or passive glasses. Don't look for them any time soon in the home market, either.

But the tv's showing what looked like normal HD, became 3D, when glasses were on?

Glasses aren't going to make something suddenly look 3D. There must have been some 2D to 3D conversion turned on that you were not aware of.

The present technology being researched that does not use 3D glasses is primarily for single viewer applications. The latest 3D Sony camcorder uses a glasses free small screen. It works well but is restricted to a very small sweet spot to see the 3D. Larger screens for laptops look OK for 2 people viewing but the 3D effect still suffers a very small sweet spot.
