Finally after 3 years of wasted effort, money and pissed off customers; a light has come on at Shaw Direct. The hardware is incapable of doing all that the software was telling it to do. Amazing that a company can stay profitable when many subs know more technically about the product than the company does.

All further upgrades to the 505/530 (and 209/319) are cancelled. Efforts are now going into final testing of the 605/630 (tentative launch date September) plus the design of the new LNBF to handle both Ku and Extended Ku. Only MPEG4 DVB-S2 HD receivers will be able to receive signals from G1/G2.

Memo to SD - learn from your previous shortsightedness - when you swap out the LNBFs; do it for both so the next setup can receive F1/G1 and F2/G2.

Is there a source for this information?

I left SD last year because of issues with the receivers also. That being said, people (Canucks) stay with them for a reason. The majority are Ethel and Ed types who have 500 acres in the middle of nowhere and are content as long as they get Wheel of Fortune (Jeopardy is a stretch) at 7:00 after the news. Why do you think they never worried about the ATSC tuner in the 500 series (even though Voom had it working)? Most are lemmings who are glad to get something besides the CBC in their area. Urban areas are dominated by cable, BarfTV and up and coming TelusTV in the west.

SD's future is continued stagnation to be sure, as long as profits still flow. Not to say BarfTV is much better, if they did not have Dish writing the software for very good receivers. Moto is looking at getting out of the business and if someone else (maybe Pace) comes along maybe the picture changes.
