The only thing I don't like about MRV is when you're watching tv on one of my 3 H24 you can't see what's scheduled to record. I wish they'd release an update to add this feature. I know if I was lazy then I could just go to the HR24 and take a look.

My thoughts EXACTLY. It's the 1 thing I don't care for.

I guess that is something they should do in the next hardware release. Allow someone with 2-8 HD DVRs stacked on top of one another in a Master and Slave configuration.

The master would be the only HD DVR connected to the TV. In the guide, if you select to record more than two shows, the consecutive show would be send to the next HD DVR.

Then when you want to watch something, the playlist would show recordings on all the HD DVRs.

It could be done, might be something in a new firmware release.

coinmaster32,
You are sort of going in circles on this. When you have 2 DVRs on a MRV setup you have to program each DVR separately; you cannot do it over the MRV network. (With an HD receiver and DVR you can control the recording from either the receiver or the DVR.)

If you want both DVRs in the same room (as was discussed in a another thread a few months ago) you probably need to set the remotes to RF mode since it seems there are issues trying to control multiple DVRs close together with the IR setting.

You always have the option of programming each DVR via D*'s online website. I use it all the time to setup recordings for my bedroom DVR when I am in the front room. I also use the website to program my front room DVR when I am on the road in our RV (where I use our bedroom DVR).

As noted, each DVR has 2 tuners. If you want to watch something live, that consumes 1 tuner. That leaves 3 to record other shows. If you want to record 4 shows, and you want to watch something, you have to watch something that was recorded.

Hope this helps,
Bob

I realize this. I hope in a future software release, they will allow you to:

1. After hitting the record button on a 3rd show/movie, the other DVR records it.
2. The playlist on one Master HD DVR (connected to the TV), allows you to watch recorded content from the other DVR, and delete recordings from it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the 2nd one is currently possible with multiple-DVRs in a MRV set up; I do it all the time.

Well others were saying it was not. But since you actually have MRV, I will accept your answer.

I can live without #1, but #2 makes it so where I don't have to hook up the other DVR to the TV, and run a audio cable to it.

Yeah, a more unified recording experience across all DVRs in a home would be great, but I haven't seen much movement on that one.

Currently, I have 2 DVRs and an HD receiver in my house. I can watch any program from any DVR in any of those 3 locations (as long as the DVR isn't already streaming to another box). I can delete programs from either DVR from any of the 3 locations. I can schedule a recording from the receiver on either DVR. However, each DVR can only schedule recordings for themselves (locally).

The playlist shows all recordings from all DVRs, although you can filter by individual boxes if you want.

Maybe when he was set up the installer never went into the whole house screen and selected yes to delete from all locations. So he can delete from both dvrs.

Well the installer came out and installed the new HD DVR. I activated whole home on the D* website.

It looks like you no longer have to call D* to do the non-deca MRV. It worked ok for me! and I don't have DECA.

I must say, this is MUCH easier then flipping back and forth between inputs on the TV.

I HOPE in a future release of firmware, I can schedule the other DVR to record from the main one. I am going to email Directv and suggest this to them.

I emailed this to D*

I have Multi Room Viewing on my account. I love Multi Room Viewing because it allows me to watch shows recorded on another DVR. I currently have 2 HD DVRs stacked on one top of each other. This allows me to record 3 shows while watching one live. However, I still have to schedule recordings for the secondary DVR on itself(or the internet). Me and quite a few other members of the satellite discussion forum satelliteguys.us, would like Directv to include a couple new options in the next software release. The first one would allow us to schedule recordings for the secondary (or 3rd or 4th) DVR from the 1st one. For example, if we we select the record button on a 3rd (or 4th,5th and 6th)show or moive, it would say "Now recording on DVR 2 (or 3 or 4). The second feature would being able to see how much recording capacity is left on other DVRs, from the Primary DVR.
This would make the Whole Home DVR feature a lot more integrated. Thanks.

By the way, you do have Deca, it's built into your HR24. (all other receivers but the 24 series use external deca adapters) Unless you connected them to your network via ethernet.

Glad you are enjoying MRV. It's worth it's weight in gold.......

There have been a whole lot of posts all over the net asking for this feature since day one of MRV. Directv is already aware that it's wanted, whether they can do it or not, who knows. I sure hope so.

MRV is using the networked capabilities of the DVRs so that you can see the list of all participating DVRs combined into one list. When you go into network setup, you can see that they are "aware" of each others' existence on the network. I have an iPod app that lets me control either DVR in my house, bedroom or living room. I can bring up a virtual remote that works just like the DirecTV remote. I can not see what's on the screen of the TV from the iPod, but I can fully control the DVR through this app to the extent that I can do anything that can be done with the "real" remote. The fact that I can access functions on the DVRs through the network AND the facts that they are "aware" of each other AND already have a combined list, seems to indicate to me that it should be a rather trivial exercise to have an additional screen that UN-combines the list in some way... maybe just color coding it based on which DVR it's on, and shows you each DVRs scheduled recordings, what's recorded on each one, etc.

I have a suspicion that there's some other underlying reason they haven't already done this. In some cases, the reason can be as simple as the added complexity would result in an increase in customer trouble calls/support calls. So while WE would all like this feature, we may be the geek subset (minority) of customers and they're looking at a much bigger picture of the customer base.

You may well be right. I did here a hint of a rumor this morning that indicated that it is coming but not soon, this from a usually reliable source.

unless you have only one receiver on the account doing that wont work because you probably already have a splitter in the setup

checking your other 28 threads and bypassing the porn ones it looks like you only have one receiver right now so yes you can do that but it has the be the Directv specified splitter. You cannot just go to Target and grab the 2.99 el-cheapo 2 way splitter

Actually. as long as continuity to the power injector is maintained, the SWM signal CAN be split a limited number of times "on the run" (I read somewhere -11dB max, so three 2 ways, a 2 way and 4 way, or one 8 way) before you start having issues. It is not "required" to be home-run like the legacy signal. This is because SWM uses the 2MHz control channel to select the LNB/polarization, as opposed to legacy which was controlled by voltage. Of course run splitting is not recommended due to line loss, it's really a last resort.
