1. I read you can do MRV without the DECA BS, I have the ability to connect the current HD DVR, and the one that will be coming thursday as well. Can you still do that? The thread was from January.
2. Can I record 4 shows (or Record 3 and Watch 1 live), from the guide on one receiver? This would keep me from having to have the other receiver connected to the TV.
3. Can I share a playlist for both receivers on one receiver? That would allow me to watch recorded content from another receiver without having to flip over to it.
4. Can you move a recorded show or movie from one HD DVR to another?

2. The DVR's have a max of 2 streams per DVR. SO one DVR has 2 streams possible....2 DVR's has up to 4 etc
4. no

So I should be able to seamlessly hit record 3 times in on different channels in the guide?

You would have to go to both the DVR's record 2 on one, and then the 3rd show on the other. I don't belive that you can tell one DVR to record from another.

I thought with two DVR's in a MRV setup, you could record 3 shows from the same DVR. The DVR would tell the other one to record. I know you can tell it to record over LAN, I do it with my smartphone all the time.

The Directv Sandwhich Club

I wonder who else does this? I know I'm going to this Thursday, and I know Iceberg does.

The HR34 is not set to come out until next year, and It's gonna cost $399.

I often want to record a 3rd show, or watch live TV while recording 2 shows. Which as you may know is not possible.

So I took advantage of my Free HD DVR upgrade.

Now I'm going to have two receivers on top of each other, and will now be able to record more than 2 shows at once!

With a SWM Set up, its easy, all I have to do is just connect a SWM 2 way splitter in my room, and I can share two HD DVR's one on Coax.

really? Have you been at my house to verify how I have my setup? Because you'd be wrong

unless you have only one receiver on the account doing that wont work because you probably already have a splitter in the setup

checking your other 28 threads and bypassing the porn ones it looks like you only have one receiver right now so yes you can do that but it has the be the Directv specified splitter. You cannot just go to Target and grab the 2.99 el-cheapo 2 way splitter

OK I'll say it again (for about the 4th time) since you seem to be slow..

EACH DVR CAN ONLY RECORD TWO STREAMS AT ONCE

They dont "talk to each other"
They dont say to each other "OK you record these two shows and I'll record one"

You have to set up the recordings on each DVR as how you want it. The only thing MRV allows you to do is watch the DVR from a HD receiver. If you have 2 DVR's it really is a moot point...especially in your other thread that you felt the need to open that you are having 2 DVR's and gonna stack them on top of each other. YOU WOULDNT GAIN ANYTHING WITH MRV IN THIS CASE

No, I have 3 HR DVRS and one H24 all connected via MRV. Only the H24 allows you to record a program and tell it what DVR to record the program with. You have to go to each DVR to separately, use the phone app, or the internet.

EDIT: Damn Ice....you beat me to it!

Ok Schedule recordings from the web or my smartphone.

But can I keep a shared playlist on one HD DVR? That way I don't have to connect it to the TV, and flip back and forth.

unless you decide to pay for MRV that really would be the only way to view the other DVR without it hooked to the TV......but in all honesty why would you do that? If you have both DVR's in the same area why not save the money and just have them hooked to separate inputs on the TV?

Because it would keep everything in one list. It would also limit me if I didn't MRV them, because each series would have to be stored independently, and it just makes it easier to keep track of.

I dont think MRV works like that...I dont have it so I'm not 100% sure but I think it only allows you to view the contents on one DVR at a time so you'd see the list on DVR1 or DVR2 but not same time

edit: I guess it does show all of them on one list
If you have more than one, DIRECTV's Whole-Home DVR service combines all of the programs recorded on your separate HD DVRs into one easy-to-use playlist.

no it wouldnt limit you. Record all series on one DVR and use the 2nd one as overflow (one time recordings or series that fall within the priority issue)

The key benefit of MRV is really the combined playlist and management of recorded content from any DVR. You can watch and delete recorded shows from any of the units, with the caveat that each DVR can only stream one program over the network at a time.

Beyond that, the DVRs all operate as independent units. You have to manage scheduling on each DVR, you have to check each DVR for disk space utilization, and all recording conflicts have to be managed manually between units.

I do agree that if you were just going to stack a couple DVRs on top of each other, just save the $3/mo and hook them to separate inputs or get a cheap HDMI switch (Monoprice). The online scheduling quickly becomes limiting and you'll definitely need to have direct access to both DVRs.

I have 4 recievers on top of each other in my rack. 2 HR's for DirecTV and 2 VIP722k's from Dish.. Nothing unusual here...
