Football season is just around the corner! At last!

The AFC North has quite a few bulletin points heading into the 2010 season...

-Steelers: Roethlisberger suspended the first 6 games, OT Willie Colon out for the season with injury, WR Limas Sweed out for the season with injury, lost Santonio Holmes to the Jets, lost Willie Parker to free agency. By all accounts, this looks like a down year for the Steelers.

-Ravens: Finally added a premier WR in Anquan Boldin. They also signed Donte Stallworth. These move should only help the growth of Joe Flacco and help to further spread out the offense to favor breakout RB sensation, Ray Rice.

-Browns: Added a veteran QB in Jake Delhomme & Seneca Wallace, got rid of the QB controversy in Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson and drafted Colt McCoy. Other notable additions include LB Scott Fujita, CB Sheldon Brown and TE Ben Watson. The Browns look to build on the 4 straight wins they closed out last year with.

-Bengals: The most notable acquisition by the Bengals were the signing of WR's Antonio Bryant, Matt Jones and Return Specialist Pacman Jones. They should fit right in with the rest of the "me-first" mentalities on this team.

9 . . . 8 . . . 7 . . . 6 ?

Pittsburgh Post Gazette on the Steelers....

They were a 9-win team a year ago, with the quarterback generally upright and relatively upstanding. They were probably an 8-win team with the departure of Santonio Tweeter-dumb Holmes, probably a 7-win team in light of the formerly-upstanding quarterback's four- to six-week suspension. They look like maybe a 6-win team with Colon's Achilles unstrung.

Steelers HOPING to be a 6 win team this year? Ouch!

Looks like the Raven's year, I cannot like the Ravens for Obvious reasons, but I sure do like Ray Rice, been watching him since college, very impressive.

Browns, you mentioned getting rid of the QB controversy, OK...
What about the controversy you BROUGHT IN at QB.

You now have Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, Ok, yes, Jake SHOULD win the battle..... but once the losing starts, and you8nknow it will somewhere down the line.... How soon till they go to Senaca as the replacement, the back up is always the better option, and what about the Colt McCoy situation, he's probably the best in camp.

Nope, No QB Controversy here.

If everything works out like it's planned, Jake will rebound from a lousy last year and be the main starting QB for the year, no questions asked. Seneca Wallace will be used sparingly with Josh Cribbs in the wild-cat from time to time.

Colt McCoy needs to be brought along the right way. There's always debate on whether that "right way" is to sit him and let him learn or throw him into the fire right away. Let's hope Holmgrem and company develop him the right way (whatever that way might be), because this team has ruined too many QB's in the past.

Yep. Pittsburgh's home paper. They don't sound too confident in the home team.

Well, your kinda dumping the Whole city in one persons opinion there.
Every newspaper has the writer that dis agrees with most everything the team does, is he the guy in Pittsburgh ?

I don't think that statement was that far off base. Especially considering all the obstacles the Steelers are dealing with that I listed in the original post.

This came from the Post Gazette ?

Steelers will win at LEAST 9 games this year, probably more.

But how are they BETTER than last year's team? This year, they'll be without their starting QB for 6 games and there's no telling how he will be once he returns mid-season. They lost a premier OT (already a weakness), they lost a big-play WR (Holmes) and a change of pace back (Fast Willie Parker).

I'm all about optimism for the "home team", but how does all THAT add up to an equal or BETTER season that last year?

6 games ?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Steeler's at 6-6 at the 12 game mark.
Hopefully better.

You all think that because Ben's not in there, they don't have a chance .....

They have a few very good guys that have stepped in previously and kept the team rolling.
Batch and Leftwich both know the offense inside and out.
I'd like to see what Dixon can do in game time situations.

How's Palamalu doing health wise? He's the most crucial guy on your squad.

I really haven't heard anything one way or the other on him.
However, I haven't looked either.

Your right, he's a HUGE part of what the team is capable of.

If he's healthy, they will be fine this year.

This will be a fascinating division to watch in 2010, for every team has a juicy storyline.

Ravens- Will the Boldin trade pay dividends? Will Baltimore's offense finally match up as well as their vaunted defense?

Bengals- Can Benson run like he did last year? Will Owens work out well in Cinci stripes? How will the chemistry experiment go?

Browns- Can Cleveland build off last year's late surge? Will the new QB's improve the offense? How many touchdown s will the newly-signed Josh Cribbs score?

Steelers- Who'll be the QB early in the season? How will Roethlisberger play after the suspension? Who'll step up to replace Holmes' production? Will Polamalu be healthy?

Steelers edition:
QB early one will be either Leftwitch or Dixon.
Ben will play fine after he gets a few games in.
Replace Holmes, Mike Wallace will do that, he was VERY impressive last year.
Troy will be healthy at the start, hopefully stays that way thru the year...
As we know, NO NFL player is HEALTHY after week one.
