There's no way to know whether it would work on previous generations based on so little information. My gut feeling is that the chances of them updating firmware in the H2x/HR2x to handle it would be barely above zero, the chances for HR44/HR54 though would be a lot higher since they are still actively updated. But this is totally a guess, and I think most people would just be happy to see something new on the OTA front even if it works only on the HS27 and above.
