I now have Shaw here in NC. I am curious as to how G1 will do. Hopefully better than Bell's 91. I dropped them last July Then they kept bugging me about not cancelling.

This map does not exactly agree with some of the inner contours of the official map previously released (which goes down to +48 dBw, in 3 dB increments). IF the Satbeams map is to be believed, the outer contour is probably +45 dBw, and would give a rough approximation on the outer edge of what ShawDirect's 75E system would cover under average conditions.
It does give hope for those in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Missouri, Nebraska for the ability to use a 1.2 to 1.5 meter dish, with larger antennas doable in northern parts of California and Nevada. Since the original poster reported usable but marginal levels in Santa Fe, NM already, I think that we could also include South Carolina, northern parts of Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi, plus Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma. We shall see!

It'll be interesting to see how close this map gets to the actual results:

Mike if you were talking to me I dont understand all your tekkie stuff about digicipher and everything. I was talking about your posting where you said for people to go to options 647 and tell you the reading in DB. I will do that if you will tell me what channels you want us to try. The numbers from 6-4-7 are different on differnt channels. I have an excel sheet from Shaw that says what channels are on the old sats but I don't know what channels are on the new sat. Please tell me some that are on G1 and I will do your test!

There are NO readable channels on G1 now. I check everyday. My guess is that there will not be until after they move the music channels on Nay 21. Unfortunately, Shaw is not like Bell and Dish where you can check sat signals by transponders

I would like to remind everyone that sat maps can be wrong. According to all the maps, I should not be able to receive 82 at all. The best is to collect data on where people are and what their strengths are. When people were saying that 91 and 82 would have the same footprints, I got a second 30 inch dish, but it was a no go. I am afraid to buy a 1.2 meter dish, just to end up using it for a "no rain fade" dish for Dish Network. If I can get signal on 1 transponder with my 75e dish, I will get a larger dish, if not, I will probably not buy a larger dish. If I do get a 1.2 meter dish, and I happen to be able to get 91, I will go back to Bell.

It will be a few more days until Shaw maps new G1 channels to consumer receivers, so we'll have to wait on that part.

Regarding 82 and 91 West for Bell....I would not hold out much hope for 91, after assisting the Canadian Embassy in D.C. last summer. 91 drops off like a rock between Philadelphia and Washington. While some users in metro Philadelphia have been able to use a 30 inch dish for Nimiq 6, a satellite dealer tested a 2.4 meter (8 foot) offset for the embassy, and ended up with an unreliable signal with a meter reading no higher than 45 on a Bell receiver. Southern Virginia/Northern N.C. is several hundred miles to the south, and simply not going to work for 91 DBS. I do have great hope for it to work on AnikG1with a larger offset reflector; 1.2 meters or perhaps a 1.5 meter model.

Okay thanks Miquel I guess mikekohl was confused and thought there were channels now. Well when they show up if people will please post what they are I'll do a 647 and report my readings--if any!

If you have a spectrum analyzer, the carriers for Anik G1 are up there.
And some of the channels are mapped (in a testing mode), but unavailable to consumer equipment.
But until this final mapping is done, consumer equipment cannot see those channels.
(I'm not confused...but perhaps you were by my previous explanation...no matter, it's only a few more days)

This makes me think that 91 could possibly be used for Dish Mexico one day. I didn't think about this until I found out that Dish 77 was DBS for Dish Mexico. If Dish Mexico is successful, they will need more bandwidth. I was always under the impression that DBS satellites had to be around 10 degrees from each other. Could this really be why they reduced the 82 footprint and made 91 so tight that another sat could be placed at 91, one that would cover south of US only, so that 91DBS could be used for Dish Mexico?
By the way... still no channels on the customers' receivers for Anik G1! They said this Spring. I guess we might be waiting until June 21.

Thanks. I will, but I know that MiguelAqui is a bit north of me and has a 75cm dish. I have only a 65cm.

I will check nonetheless

Nothing for G1 here. But I think my dish is off. Some channels are in the 80-90 range, like 148. MSNBC. @ 88 but others like 334 FX HD are at 50. I think that I need to go tweak the dish.

Does anyone have a list of which channels are on which satellite?

Dave I think FXHD is lower than the others I remember a couple months ago when we had a tree growing in the way we first noticed it on FX trying to watch The Americans. If you tweak your dish please let us know if FX is still lower even if its better.

There are excel sheets on the Shaw website that show the chans and xpdrs for F1 and F2 dunno whether they have a list for G1 yet. Sry I don't remember the URL, maybe some body else here will.
