Anyone in Austin, TX area help me with 82W (Nimiq2) & 91W (Nimiq1)

Could anyone in the Austin, Texas/South Central Texas area with a motorized dish tell me what type of signal they're getting on the Ku sats Nimiq2 (82W) and Nimiq1 (91W). I'm interested in signing up with a northern provider, but not sure what to expect signal-wise down here in Austin. Would assume I might be ok if I had a big enough dish, but I'm hoping to go no bigger than an E* 1000+/ D* slimline eliptical...if possible. I'd need to know your dish size, too...

Or if anyone in the Austin area happens to know what E* signal strengths they get on 82W (TP 17 and TP32), it would be most appreciated. I'd check myself but Digi concurs that it might be a bit of a problem to get my 1000+ to see 82 and 91.

Ha! It occurred to me after Digi told me he could see it great with his FTA in LA. Hopefully someone will be able to confirm, else I'm going to have to try to find someone with an old E*/D* dish/lnb and try pointing it at 82 and 91.
 
I'm in the DFW area, so not sure how much this will help, but with a 90cm and Pansat 9200 I'm getting around 70% quality on 82 and 90% on 91. That's just a quick read from the few ITC channels on those two. I would think you will need a larger dish size than either of the two you mentioned.

can you post each transponder info? I know fitz wants to get ExpressVu but if the "crapelites" that EVu uses dont work in Texas it might be a moot point

I swung the motor back over to these two birds and have the following readings. I took the readings from ant. setup where you set usals, etc. and just changed tp's until it locked. I did not want to scan and flip through all the scrambled signals and then have to go back and delete the channels. It is a bit overcast here this evening.

82 seems to be the one for him to worry about.

what is weird is 12253 is TP 3....thelist shows that as a conus beam

12268 is TP4 which shows as "non se" which means its on the crapelite

can you post just the H/L transponders? Sounds like fitz might be OK in Austin
 
I'd be happy to help, but I'm not sure what your asking for. The TP's I posted where on the C input of the Invacom. Of course in the pansat it shows H and V I just posted as L and R to avoid confusion. I could turn the 22khz switch off and that would use the standard side of the lnb. Is that what you are asking? I will double check those transponders on 82, maybe I just crossed them up when I wrote the numbers down.
 
Fitz is thinking of getting expressVu but with the issues in the footprint in the southern US (AZ, Cali, TX, Florida) he wants to make sure the transponders on 82 will work there. I was working with him in PM but then I asked to post on the board as I can see all 32 TP's on 82..

82 has 2 satellites there and 8 TP's (1/2 the evens) don't cover the whole US

Could you just scroll through the H side (left) and post the transponder quality...this is a circular satellite

I doubled checked and for 12253 V I can not lock it. I let it sit there for a few minutes and it got to 22% a couple of times and then back to zero.

here are a few more.

There is a bit more cloud cover here now.

will they let you subscribe to a canadian provider in the us,I thought there was some kind of rules against that.

its a grey area :) As long as you have access to a Canadian address, you can get it..see the Canadian area for more info :)

Just a note on dish size,

I get 91 and 82 on a Dish 500 excellent here in West Virginia!

Just testing those TP's on two STB boxes a bit ago.

Bell ExpressVu on Nimiq 1 91 Signal 96 Quality 92 % 12399 on a Coolsat 6000

Bell ExpressVu on Nimiq 2 82 Signal 91 Quality 88 % 12268 on a Fortec Lifetime Classic NA

That is using the Dish Pro LNB on the 500 also! The VU HD Promo comes in booming with that LNB! If I wanted to use this size dish getting a lnb bracket system on it to get them both in at the same time might work without using the Pro LNB, but would be tricky. But there is a hand full of FTA stuff on them that makes it not worth it unless you had a sub.

I tested that one out years ago when I heard you needed a 75 CM dish or bigger to get those birds. I had to try the 500 to see for myself! Yes, it worked! I still have the dish pointed there today just on the 91 side. At least for my area you can use a smaller dish for bell.

I don't know about using a 500 in the lower US but it comes in just fine here on that dish size! My guess it would differ to what state you lived in!

Oh no, now you guys got me wondering, lol! I never tried to get 82 (except accidentally the traxis 3500 will suck signals off it witha linear lnb sometimes)
Back when I had the DP-twin lnbf that worked, and I was trying to find a 'rainfade' solution to Dishnetwork I never could get the skew right on a .90primestar. It would get one sat great , and the other at 40%, eventually I gave up on that and cancelled the subscription shortly after that.
But now I wonder, about 91/82. Well thats an experiment for a later (cooler) day, haha.

Expressvu footprint covers most of the US...its the west coast/az/tx/fl area that has issues. They use 2 satellites at 82 (and 91) and the 2nd satellite (aka crapelite) is an old Directv satellite. When they shifted it north it cut out the areas I posted above

I thought so Ice, I did understand where the forum was going, I just had to chime in on the results I found on both Bev birds using old D* Dishes and LNB'S! :)
