Apple pays $53 million to settle liquid sensor suit

Sadly, the article gives no hint how false positives were caused.
Nor whether new moisture sensors are less aggressive.

I've always wondered if having your device in a steamy bathroom might trip the sensor?

Oh, some discussions imply the sensors are electronic.
All the ones I've seen are white paper stickers that turn pink when moisened.

While I do think the sensor is a great idea, it is very, very poorly made. For a multi billion/trillion dollar company, they could do better. It really is activated by small moisture, and I think that should be changed. My phone's sensor says its been dropped. It has never even been touched with wet fingers. It's just gotten moist from being in my pocket a lot. So if it ever breaks, I can't do anything because its humid where I live?
