With 13 major DMA Locast coverage now, I'm sure the network and station lawyers have been digging furiously trying to find a loophole in 17 USC 111 they can go to court with. But obviously they haven't found anything yet...
Hmmmm, let's see, Locast needs a certain level of donations to expand into each city, and so far, that's gotten them into 13 cities with a combined population of almost 35 million. Since beginning the Locast service in NYC about a year and a half ago, Locast has continued to grow with both private and corporate donations. Here's a link to an interesting white paper that was sent to Locast by a reporter. It was reportedly written by lawyers with no connection to and with no input from Locast or creator Sports Fans Coalition NY.They didn't take Aereo to court in day one. They waited to see if they could even survive on their own, because why spend millions in legal fees on something that bankrupts on its own accord? I'm sure they are biding their time waiting to see if Locast lasts before filing suit. They need to demonstrate harm so filing suit when it only has a few thousand users isn't going to impress the judge as much as filing suit when it has hundreds of thousands of users. Since it is donation based if there are a lot of free riders it might go under and solve the problem for the networks.

Once the local stations start losing revenue from cable and satellite companies they will...i.e. first time Charlie drops a local and adds locast on the internet connected hopper as a replacement the fun will begin

You do know the Locast app is already on the Hopper, don't you? And we already have the option of dropping the sat locals. And ATT has added the app to the DTV and I think U-Verse boxes. Some cable companies have also promoted Locast as a retrans dispute option. I suspect there'll be a lawsuit at some point, but the odds of it succeeding seem to be pretty slim unless the law is changed.
Between the Dish option to drop the locals and have Dish install an OTA antenna and the Locast app, Dish is already cutting smaller checks for the sat locals. And now that AT&T has joined in as well, I expect they'll soon be cutting smaller checks as well, although I don't know where they stand on allowing subscribers to drop the sat locals. The big thing Locast is giving the sat and cable companies is leverage in negotiating locals retrans agreements.Its when dish stops paying for locals the fun will begin...right now it such a small number using the ap...but when ole chuck stops cutting those checks the real screaming begins

Actually, those good old rabbit ears work just fine as long as you're within range of the tower. Digital did cut down the coverage area of some stations, but it had nothing to do with what antennas work. Digital or not, RF is still RF. Personally, I haven't had any problem with Locast's PQ, but then I'm not a video "connoisseur" by any means.Not as much as you think...the digital transition eliminated OTA for many...its estimated only 10% still use OTA...you can't just use rabbit ears like the good ole days...for many anyways...locast isn't HD..yet thats another stumbling block...it comes down to hard cold cash for networks and stations...when the gravy stops the law suits start
