Auction of the Upper C-Band Frequencies

Isn't 4.5-4.8GHz currently used by federal agencies and the military? If there is available bandwidth in this range it might be a viable option although current LNBs and receivers would need updating. I think PC tuners cards may be capable but not sure there are going to be manufacturers rushing to sell FTA receivers for the niche market we represent.

I used to have a setup for 4.5 to 4.8 GHz. I was in the path of one terrestrial microwave link that took out about 10 MHz of the band. That was later shut down, so the band was completely free of interference at my location. But I lived in a very rural area, so YMMV.

The feed and LNB would have to be replaced, but any receiver should work for this band, assuming it has the codecs needed for the signal. The LNB down converts the signal to somewhere in the 950 to 1450 MHz range, just like most other LNBFs.

Some receivers may not have the L.O. frequency used in the LNB as an option to select. It will still work fine, but the receiver will label signals with an incorrect frequency.

Hello and thanks for reading my post. So, the Big Beautiful Bill has mandated that the FCC auction at least 100Mhz of the Upper C-Band. Isn't it interesting that 100Mhz has turned into 180Mhz (the whole band). These types of decisions should be made for the greater good of all (The Telecoms, and the incumbent C-Band Broadcasters). The intelligent thing to do is to compromise. Let the Telecoms have their 100Mhz, but let the Broadcasters have their 80Mhz and make the 80Mhz untouchable. I don't work in the industry, so I don't even really know if 80Mhz is enough spectrum to accomodate C-Band Broadcasters. Taking all of C-Band is Bad Business and it's totally wrong. This is my opinion and I'd like to hear yours.
This totally infuriates me! Yet another grab of public resources by the Feral (Intended spelling) Government of PUBLIC resources to benefit corporate America. It seems every week or month brings some new legislation that further erodes my ability to pursue the things that bring me hapiness.

Exactly! And per my other thread on this matter, they are also intentionally robbing us all of receiving any compensation for this spectrum theft because they are limiting compensation to people who had their dishes registered with the government before the end of 2018, which was well before any of this B.S. was being considered!

The first time around, C-band incumbents received financial assistance with upgrading their dishes, LNBs, etc. and had 5G interference filters paid for with some of the proceeds received from the cell phone companies buying the spectrum. Now C-band incumbents will receive NOTHING from the government even though this could be an even more expensive transition to make!

New Ku LNBs will be needed, new feedhorns will be needed, more 5G filters will be needed, expensive dual orthomode feedhorns will be needed, etc. Etc. not just 5G filters alone. And people with mesh dishes are screwed because Ku performs like ass on mesh C band dishes. Entirely new solid dishes will be needed for these people.
