azbox likes one hard drive but not another??

seems like software issue

nah its the same software that has been in the unit since August (5020)

Yes,

It is not a software (firmware) related issue. The problem with finding a compatible HDD is a LONGGGG subject and wrought with all sorts of speculations.

There is a list of HDD's that 1] Always work, 2] Frequently work, 3] Sometimes work and 4] Never work. When you find that some of the specs of the HDDs overlap these categories, it is difficult to make a judgement or a rule to go by. Of course, beyond just the specs of the HDD there is also the formatting procedure used that may need to be considered as well, and the size of the drive or capacity.

I think that if a person had the time, a lot of helpful IT and electronics background knowledge and loads of money to burn, they could test every major HDD brand, every size they offer and every formatting technique and compare them all and then develop a set of rules to go by. There are just too many variables in the specifications of the HDDs to go by any brand name or size alone, or the formatting technique alone. Oh, and besides those variables, how about internal vs external (portable USB) HDDs, too.
