Broadband connection!

How is my VIP 622 picking up a broadband signal (most of the time) when it is not wired to any internet?

HomePlug is built into the 622. Do you have a HomePlug networking kit?

No! I sure don't! I do have a wireless network though!

Hmm, what happens when you test the connection. I'm not at home right now to check but I think the menu commands are "Menu > 6 > 3 > connection". This will test your phone and broadband connections.

Do you live in an apartment complex or any other multi dweling building where someone else might have a homeplug device? Also, why is it that you think it is picking up a broadband signal?

It shows a IP address is the set menu!

Interesting. So do you live in a single family home or a multi family dweling?

You can pick up a neighbor's HomePlug traffic if they are just on the same transformer as you. So you don't have to be in a townhouse or apt for this to happen.

The trouble is that even though you have enough signal for an IP address, you may not get a very strong signal which could impact the download speeds.

I bet this is happing a lot more that people suspect.
