Called And Complained About Price Increase! Great Results!!

I just called and they gave me $10 off for 5 months :)

Not only did they screw me on the HD Platinum package for $10/mo they got me for the DHPP extended warranty which is $5.99/mo where it used to be $1.99 before.

I think the guys in Iraq call that: "BOHICA," bend over, here it comes again.

Today, I finally got onto the DISH website to access my account, and was rudely awakened to learn that my CC Autopay apparently was cancelled last December (found this out from CSR). I had the Platinum Pack, with one additional dvr fee, was paying $110.99/month. I have had HD service since last Spring, and reluctantly gave up my beloved 942 for the 622 in anticipation of the coming MPEG-4 shift. So imagine my further surprise when asked if I would like to "upgrade" to HD? I informed her I have two 622's, and that DISH changed out my antenna for the 129 satellite. Here is the breakdown of charges shown on the website:

Previous Balance

Balance $ 110.99

New Monthly Charge(s) 02/20 to 03/19
ADDL RECEIVER ACCESS FEE 6.00

DISH NETWORK DVR SERVICEFEE 11.96
DISHHD 20.00
PREMIUM PACKAGE LOCALS 0.00

Account Charges $ 140.65

This, of course, did not include the then-unpaid January bill, so I had a $232 charge pending. Had the usual, great conversation with a CSR in India, with a yuppie American name (just find that so "cute"). Asked about DISH Advantage, was told, if I get the equivalent to what I had with Platinum Pack, the DISH Advantage does not give any more discount. So, this is what I now have:

Top 250: $89.99
HD: 20.00
Locals 5.00
Add'l dvr 6.00
Total $120.99

Guess I can live with that, not happy, but for the price, a good package.

If my price goes up $25 (which is what the price is) I will be moving my package back. I pay $116 or something like that right now, $140 is ridiculous.

Dish is going to get an earfull from me. How do I get a $30 difference in price from 1 month to another?

$11.96 for "DISH NETWORK DVR SERVICEFEE" is part of it and is probably a, uhhh, mistake on Dish's part.

Between your Platinum package last month for $104.99 and this months's AEP+HD for $114.99, that's another $10.

Then you've got $6.54 in "DISH NETWORK DVR SERVICE PARTIAL MONTH" fees.

That's $28.50 difference. And so is $139.48 - $110.98. :)

You should see mine... I have no idea what to make of it...

I had dish hd silver, and 1 week later they changed to free 622, so I was a new customer and wanted in on that...

Mind you, I wanted to change to dvr advantage because it included locals, the dhpp, and dvr fees. Was supposed to be just 3.97 more than the dish hd silver , after adding the hd package to the dvr advantage pack... I currently have a credit balance of 107... I have no idea if they have my month to month straight or not.

Yeah, I've emailed the CEO address, hopefully they'll get this crap corrected. That is complete incompetence to mess up this changeover this bad, IMHO.

Was the DHPP plan just out of the blue or did you upgrade equipment?

I'm currently getting the $1.99 warranty also. One of the reasons I'm hesitant to "Dish it UP" to a 622 is that I'm afraid they'll jack mine up to $5.99 too. Two of my other receivers are 7100's so the warranty is nice to have. It's much nicer having it for $24 a year instead of $72.

They are doing away with the old 1.99 plan. If you look at your statement for this month you will see a 5.99 charge for DHPP and then a credit for 5.99. We have a one month grace period before they start charging us 5.99. So much for being grandfathered.

This rate increased has really p***ed me off. My rate is going up 14 dollars and if I hadn't read about it on this site I wouldn't know about it. No letter, no email, or no Charlie and Jim looking all sad eyed on a chat talking about how are rates need to go up. My bill is going up 11%. At least my local cable company sent out a letter about their 2 dollar hike.

I can't believe the size of the price increase. My bill was going up $14. I was planning on downgrading. I then learned that MLB is going exclusively to D*. I decided it was time for me to switch. D* was offering all kinds of incentives so it was worth it for me to make the switch. Even with the full price, D* would still be cheaper. I miss some of the HD that E* offered, but I am hoping D* will come through on their promises. I never had such a big increase in all my years with cable. I just can't believe E* would do that. I wonder how many will drop programming or leave E* all together.

I have been a Dish customer for 8 years and I was happy with E* up until this year. I had some problems with their customer service and was double billed for MLB. It took me numerous calls to work out the MLB double billing. My call was disconnected multiple times when I was unwilling to accept that my bill was correct. I finally had to threaten to cancel so I could talk to someone who understood English and was able to correct the problem. I was also stood up twice by the installer coming out to add a second dish. The work he did was so bad, I had to pay someone else to fix it. I did receive a credit from Dish for this, but not for the full amount I paid. I have been unhappy with losing stations when Dish has had battles with the programmers. MLB and then the huge price increases were the final straws for me.

So far my experience with Direct has been good. I do prefer Dish's equipment and I miss the additional HD they have, but I like only having 1 dish now instead of 2 and a smaller bill. I hope Dish can improve in the next year and not hit their customers with such a big price jump.

I don't even know how to figure out my bill. And I am still trying to figure out what REIMBURSEMENT OF CT GROSS EARNINGS TAX is.

Dish Network can not tell me what it is nor can the Tax Department of the State of Connecticut who tells me to ask Dish Network, but I have been paying it for a few years now, Next step I guess is ask the attorney general what it is.

It looks like CT whacks the satellite companies 5% of their gross earnings in the state. They in turn whack you for reimbursement. The tax form they must file is linked below:

I just called Dish and complained about the price increase. They told me too bad! Companies have price increases every year and they must pass those increases onto their customers. I can't believe it. They did offer to give me a $4 discount for the next 6 months. They did tell me I could cancel the DHPP plan and add it when something breaks and it would be covered! The UVerse service is looking better all the time.
